ROUNDUP: Bird helps Boulder City soar past Virgin Valley

Mallory Bird had 11 kills, and Avalon Frantz dished out 31 assists Friday as Boulder City’s girls volleyball team clinched at least a share of the Class 3A Southern League title with a 25-15, 25-16, 25-14 win over visiting Virgin Valley.
Eliza Jeppsen and Whitney Barlow each supplied eight kills for the Eagles, and teammate Katie Robbins served five aces.
Heidi Lister served six aces for Virgin Valley, and Alora Bonner contributed five kills, six digs and two aces.
The Bulldogs’ Nikki Arquette added 11 assists and six digs.
Bishop Gorman 2, Faith Lutheran 0 — At Phoenix, the Gaels opened play in the Nike Tournament of Champions with a 25-16, 25-14 win over the Crusaders.
Kelsey McCourt had nine assists, and Vanessa Sigman added seven digs and three kills for Faith Lutheran, which got three kills from Lindsay Flangas.
Desert Vista (Ariz.) 2, Faith Lutheran 0 — At Phoenix, the Thunder handed the Crusaders a 25-10, 25-9 setback.
McCourt dished out 10 assists, and Taylor Richards supplied four kills and four aces for Faith Lutheran. Sam Leonard added three kills for the Crusaders.
Taylorsville (Utah) 2, Faith Lutheran 0 — At Phoenix, the Warriors posted a 25-23, 25-17 victory over the Crusaders.
McCourt had 14 assists, and Sigman spiked six kills for Faith Lutheran. Richards contributed five digs, and Leonard and Taylor Hammer each added three kills for the Crusaders.
Pahranagat Valley 3, Beatty 0 — At Beatty, Kyla Mortensen piled up 11 kills, four digs and two aces, and Halie Lewis added 11 kills and eight aces as the Panthers breezed to a 25-14, 25-8, 25-4 win over the Hornets.
Kennedy Huntsman dished out 12 assists, and Kimberly Lewis supplied seven assists and four digs for Pahranagat Valley. Bailee Hosier had five digs for the Panthers.
Lincoln County 2-2, Laughlin 0-1 — At Panaca, the Lynx won the opener 25-16, 25-13 and rallied to take the nightcap, 23-25, 25-21, 15-6.
Tonopah 3, Sandy Valley 0 — At Tonopah, the Muckers were 25-16, 25-18, 27-25 winners over the Sidewinders.
Indian Springs 3, Round Mountain 0 — At Round Mountain, the Thunderbirds posted a 25-10, 25-18, 25-16 win over the Knights.
