Roundup: Gorman wins three in Tournament of Champions

Bishop Gorman’s girls volleyball team won all three of its matches in the Nike Tournament of Champions in Phoenix on Friday.

The Gaels will play Saturday morning for the right to advance to the top bracket in the 96-team tournament.

Gorman started the day with a 25-8, 25-18 win over Eastlake (California) and collected a 27-25, 25-18 win over St. Thomas Aquinas (Florida) and a 10-25, 25-13, 15-12 win over Hamilton (Arizona).

Faith Lutheran 2, Lee County (Ga.) 0 — At Phoenix, Maggie Skinner had eight kills and 10 digs as the Crusaders defeated the Trojans, 25-22, 25-7 in the Nike Tournament of Champions.

Hailey Carroll had 16 assists for Faith Lutheran.

Seton Catholic (Ariz.) 2, Faith Lutheran 1 — At Phoenix, the Sentinels battled back for a 22-25, 25-22, 15-8 win over the Crusaders in the Nike Tournament of Champions.

Carroll had 10 assists for Faith Lutheran. Skinner had 12 digs, and Isabelle Guerrero added six kills for the Crusaders.

Chandler (Ariz.) 2, Faith Lutheran 1 — At Phoenix, the Trojans outlasted the Crusaders, 25-16, 21-25, 15-13 in the Nike Tournament of Champions.

Carroll had 12 assists for Faith Lutheran. Guerrero had nine kills, and Skinner had 10 digs.

Palo Verde 2, Steele Canyon (Calif.) 1 — At La Jolla, California, the Panthers outlasted the Cougars, 25-16, 18-25, 15-6 in the La Jolla Coastal Classic.

Palo Verde 2, Patrick Henry (Calif.) 0 — At La Jolla, California, the Panthers swept the Patriots, 25-18, 25-21 in the La Jolla Coastal Classic.

Palo Verde 2, Poway (Calif.) 1 — At La Jolla, California, the Panthers rallied for a 21-25, 25-14, 15-10 win over the Titans in the La Jolla Coastal Classic.

Centennial 2, Strathcona (Canada) 1 — At La Jolla, California, the Bulldogs held off the Lions, 25-14, 23-25, 15-12 in the La Jolla Coastal Classic.

La Jolla (Calif.) 2, Centennial 0 — At La Jolla, California, the Vikings defeated the Bulldogs, 26-24, 25-13 in the La Jolla Coastal Classic.

Valhalla (Calif.) 2, Centennial 1 — At La Jolla, California, the Norsemen rallied for a 20-25, 26-24, 15-13 win over the Bulldogs in the La Jolla Coastal Classic.

Lake Mead 2-0, Lincoln County 1-2 — At Panaca, The Eagles and Lynx split a doubleheader.

Lake Mead won the opener, 23-25, 25-19, 15-13.

Lincoln County rebounded to take the nightcap, 25-20, 27-25.

Calvary Chapel 2-2, Mountain View 0-0 — At Calvary Chapel, the Lions swept a doubleheader from the Saints by scores of 25-5, 25-9 and 25-16, 25-9.

Calvary Chapel’s Kristin Meyer served seven aces, and teammate Sarah Ramsey added five aces in the twinbill.

Pahranagat Valley 3, Beatty 0 — At Beatty, the Panthers swept the Hornets, 25-4, 25-11, 25-4.

Word of Life 3, Sandy Valley 2 — At Sandy Valley, the Eagles outlasted the Sidewinders, 21-25, 25-21, 25-11, 22-25, 15-11.
