ROUNDUP: Lake Mead volleyball second at Liberty Christian tourney

Lake Mead's undefeated run finally came to an end Saturday, but not until the last of the Eagles' six matches in the Liberty Christian tournament in Huntington Beach, Calif.

Desert Chapel (Calif.) defeated the Eagles, 25-18, 25-18 in the championship match of the one-day tournament. Both teams played six matches Saturday.

Lake Mead (17-1-3) went 1-0-3 in pool play in the morning, defeating host Liberty Christian, 25-18, 25-13 and tying California Lutheran, Southlands Christian (Calif.) and Desert Chapel. All pool play matches were limited to two games.

The Eagles defeated Southlands Christian, 25-14, 25-19 to earn a spot in the final.

Ashley Newton had 42 kills, 40 digs and 18 blocks in the six matches. Amanda Wellman added 44 digs, 34 kills, 13 aces and seven blocks.

Other leaders for the Eagles were: Jessica Rinaldi, 82 assists, 34 digs; Sam Herman, 27 digs, 11 kills, nine blocks, nine aces; Jordan Clarke, 62 digs; Heather Hillenbrand, 12 kills, 18 blocks; and Tessa McQuillan 24 blocks, nine kills.

The Eagles played without two regulars due to a previous commitment and an eligibility issue.

Beatty 3, Sandy Valley 0 — At Sandy Valley, the Hornets coasted to a 25-7, 25-11, 25-14 sweep.
