ROUNDUP: Palo Verde places ninth in Mountain View Invitational

Palo Verde's girls volleyball team went 1-2 on Saturday to place ninth in the Mountain View Invitational tournament in Mesa, Ariz.

The Panthers, who finished 4-3 overall in the two-day event, won their opening match Saturday, downing Salpointe (Ariz.), 25-23, 14-25, 15-13 behind 18 assists, eight digs and four aces from Stephanie Herman. Kendall Chavel added six digs, five kills and three aces, and Faryn Duncan posted eight digs for Palo Verde.

Catalina (Ariz.) was a 25-18, 19-25, 15-10 winner over the Panthers. Herman had 21 assists and nine digs, and Duncan collected 13 digs for Palo Verde, which got five kills and five blocks from Mikayla Diers.

Canyon del Oro (Ariz.) nipped the Panthers, 25-23, 21-25, 15-12 despite Herman's 23 assists and 11 digs. Duncan added 15 digs, and Melanie Gueorguiev and Lexi Riggs each supplied seven kills for Palo Verde.

Tonopah 3, Eureka 0 — At Tonopah, Deanna VanPoucke led a balanced attack with seven kills and five digs, and Sydney Maughan served seven aces as the Muckers downed the Vandals, 25-13, 25-14, 25-18.

Alli Friel added eight assists and four kills, and Ashley Eason and Harley Maughan each contributed five digs for Tonopah, which got five assists from Abri Perchetti.
