Green Valley’s Cannon, Newman capture Western Regional wrestling titles

Green Valley’s Sean Cannon and Ryder Newman won individual titles Thursday at the Western Junior Regional Freestyle competition at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

Cannon, who was second in the Greco-Roman tournament on Wednesday, went 6-0 at 120 pounds and defeated Devan Richter from Missouri.

Newman was 6-0 at 182, beating David Stepanyan of California in the final to capture his second consecutive Western Regional title.

Green Valley’s Donovan Peek was third at 160 pounds. All three wrestlers qualify for the Nevada National Team, which will compete at the USA Wrestling/ASICS Junior National Championships om July 12 to 20 at Fargo, N.D.
