ROUNDUP: Mendez, Trailblazers hold off Bengals

Durango’s wrestling team won three matches by pin and two more by forfeit Wednesday to edge visiting Bonanza, 39-37.

Frank Mendez led the way for the Trailblazers, winning his 182-pound match in just 55 seconds. Eduardo Penha (120) and Jeshley Medina (220) also had pins for Durango.

Cole White (160) recorded a pin for Bonanza.

Shadow Ridge 72, Cheyenne 6 — At Shadow Ridge, the Mustangs won all but one match to cruise to victory over the Desert Shields.

Joey Correa (285) won by pin in one minute. Also collecting a fall for the Mustangs were: Chaez Mokiao (120), Bobby Gallardo (132), Garry Hall (138), Dustin Van Riel (145) and Nate Kuhlman (220).
Cheyenne’s Chase Mikesell registered a pin at 106.

Coronado 54, Del Sol 6 — At Coronado, Jordan Yurmanovic (195), Jonathan Butterfield (126) and Mack Murphy (220) each pinned their opponent in less than a minute to help the Cougars rout the Dragons.

Murphy had the quickest pin, winning in 30 seconds.

Chaparral 42, Sunrise Mountain 41 — At Sunrise Mountain, the Cowboys recorded six pins to edge the Miners.

Octavio Solorzano (182) won his match in just 44 seconds to lead Chaparral.

Canyon Springs 56, Desert Pines 15 — At Canyon Springs, Brandon Famous recorded a first-period pin at 195 to help the Pioneers top the Jaguars.

Liberty 41, Boulder City 28 — At Liberty, the Patriots won five matches by pin to top the Eagles.

Michael Sanchez (120), Ian Wilson (145), Moses Sanchez (160), Jordan Joseph (170) and Kory Koryakos (182) had pins for Liberty.

Clinton Garvin (113), Brandon Foster (220) and Jackson Dunagan (285) won by fall for Boulder City.

Bishop Gorman 59, Clark 10 — At Clark, the Gaels won seven matches by pin en route to the easy win over the Chargers.

Owen Lawrie (113), Stephen Kenny (120), Nicolas Solari (126), Ryan Pyle (138), Christian Wilhelm (145), Kevin Martinez (170) and Zack Singer (285) won by fall for Gorman.

Edwin Conteno earned a pin for Clark at 220.

Spring Valley 55, Western 14 — At Western, Richard Tapia (120), Teven Mayo (132), Ikenna Obilor (160) and Ray Waters (170) each won by pin to lead the Grizzlies to the victory, clinching their fifth undefeated Southwest League title in the past six years.

Dylan Bogarin (126) won by pin for Western.
