WRESTLING: Cruz’s quick pin helps Mustangs edge Spring Valley

Shadow Ridge’s Elvin Cruz posted a pin in nine seconds at 182 pounds, and the Mustangs held on for a 35-33 home victory over Spring Valley on Wednesday.

Cruz’s pin gave Shadow Ridge a 35-18 lead. Sierra Vista won the next match by decision, and the last two by forfeit for the final margin.

A.J. Bautista (106) and Lucas Washington (145) also had pins for Shadow Ridge.

Dan Diaz (113) and Darrian Rodgers (152) won by fall for the Grizzlies.

Spring Valley 66, Sierra Vista 9 — At Shadow Ridge, Diaz and Enzo Perez (132) posted first-period pins as the Grizzlies rolled past the Mountain Lions.

Eduardo Penha (138), Tautalatasi Fualau (220) and Silvano Villanueva (285) also recorded pins for Spring Valley.

Shadow Ridge 60, Sierra Vista 6 — At Shadow Ridge, Keonardo King (120), Jonah McKee (132) and Austin Jones (152) had first-period pins as the Mustangs routed the Mountain Lions.

Tyler Gledhill (220) posted a second-period pin for Shadow Ridge.

Cimarron-Memorial 72, Desert Oasis 3 — At Desert Oasis, the Spartans won six matches by fall en route to the easy victory.

Davin Madien needed just 40 seconds to pin his opponent at 220 for Cimarron. Darnell Nelson (285) also had a first-period pin for Cimarron, and teammates Jose Bonifas (106), Jesse Saavedra (120), Michael Barnson (145) and Jesse Ramos (195) won by fall for the Spartans.

Centennial 55, Bonanza 18 — At Bonanza, James Kurashige (120), Horace Smith (132), Bruno Maraccini (138), John Lessner (152), William Richardson (160) and Jordan Lewis (285) each won by pin to lead the Bulldogs by the Bengals.

Dylan Orchard (126) won by pin for Bonanza.

Palo Verde 66, Durango 18 — At Palo Verde, Michael Lemmon (113), Michael Tim (132), Tyler Dinsmore (138), Kayden Pierson (145) and Cole Judd (195) all won by fall as the Panthers dominated.

Daniel Caswell (120) and Jordan Favorite (182) each won by fall for the Trailblazers, who forfeited six matches.

Palo Verde 41, Arbor View 30 — At Palo Verde, the Panthers got by the Aggies to earn a dual-meet victory.

Palo Verde got pins from Brayden Lott (126), Tim (132), David Geiger (160), Kavika Covington (170) and Judd (195).

Sergei Ireland (113), Andrew Riffel (182) and Jonathon Molina (220) each recorded pins for the Aggies.

Arbor View 66, Durango 9 — At Palo Verde, Ireland (113), Richardson (138), Riffel (182), Alex Espinora (195) each pinned their opponents as the Aggies cruised to victory.

Ammir Aziz (285) won his match by fall for the Trailblazers.
