WRESTLING: Guerra’s pin lifts Desert Pines over Virgin Valley

Melvin Guerra recorded a pin at 285 pounds in the final match to help Desert Pines' wrestling team rally for a 36-33 victory over visiting Virgin Valley on Wednesday.

The Jaguars trailed 21-0 after four matches, but rallied to take a 30-27 lead on Adalberto Santiago's pin at 182.

Virgin Valley reclaimed the lead on Chris DeSantiago's win by pin at 195 before Guerra helped Desert Pines pull out the victory.

Angel Rocha (138) and Joshua Moran (145) also scored falls for the Jaguars.

Gage Woods (106), Ty Smith (113), Jacob Baird (126) and Cresent Crandall (160) also won by pin for the Bulldogs.

Boulder City 72, Sunrise Mountain 12 — At Sunrise Mountain, Tyler-James Rushworth (138) won by pin in 38 seconds, and the Eagles benefitted from eight forfeit victories to top the Miners.

Garrett Leavitt (106), J.P. Valenzuela (132) and Devin Fox (195) also won by pin for Boulder City.

Alex Herrera (182) won by pin in 29 seconds for Sunrise Mountain.

Las Vegas 43, Centennial 28 — At Las Vegas, Cruz Littlefield (195) won by pin in 30 seconds to help the Wildcats top the Bulldogs.

Antonio Saldate (113), Daniel Law (126) and Sergio Ballesteros (170) also won by fall for Las Vegas.

Aviyen Gonzales (106), Nico Antuna (132), Nick Kilgore (160) and Tabor Schmaling (182) recorded pins for Centennial.

Las Vegas 42, Palo Verde 36 — At Las Vegas, Law's pin in 47 seconds at 126 pounds helped the Wildcats nip the Panthers.

Caleb Roach (120), Andrew Stokes (152), Ballesteros (170) and Robert Kaempfer (285) all won by pin for Las Vegas.

Nathaniel Davis (106), Sergio Leyva (182), Jonathan Carpenter (195) and Cole Judd (220) recorded pins for Palo Verde.

Las Vegas 72, Chaparral 7 — At Las Vegas, Ballesteros (170) won by pin in 25 seconds, and the Wildcats took advantage of six forfeit victories to rout the Cowboys.

Saldate (113), Aaron Najera (132), Littlefield (195), Mauricio Jimenez (220) and Kaempfer (285) also won by pin for Las Vegas.

Centennial 57, Chaparral 22 — At Las Vegas, Antuna (132) won by pin in 33 seconds, and the Bulldogs collected five forfeit victories en route to a win over the Cowboys.
