WRESTLING: Waltower’s quick pin helps Dragons edge Virgin Valley

Alvert Waltower posted a first-period pin at 152 pounds Tuesday to lead Del Sol's wrestling team to a 37-36 win over visiting Virgin Valley.

Waltower needed 1 minute, 23 seconds to pin his opponent. Evan Williamson (160) also won by fall for the Dragons.

Virgin Valley's Gage Woods (106), Jacob Baird (120), Chris DeSantiago (170), and Ardin Bundy (220) posted pins. Woods and DeSantiago needed less than a minute to win their matches.

Del Sol 42, Sunrise Mountain 24 — At Del Sol, Javier Arroyo won his 195-pound match by pin in 1:28 to help the Dragons defeat the Miners.

Nyko Camacho (120) and Victor Parra (182) also won by fall for Del Sol.

Carlos Hernandez (106), Angel Uresti (132), Matthew Perry (160) and Alex Herrera (170) recorded pins for Sunrise Mountain.

Cheyenne 42, Sierra Vista 36 — At Cheyenne, Cheyenne's Calvin Agabin pinned his opponent at 126 pounds, and the Desert Shields took advantage of six forfeits to beat the Mountain Lions.

Sierra Vista's Edris Omar (132), Noah Parker (138), Kyler Corpuz (145), Andrew Dunn (182) and Anthony Cordero (285) each won by fall.

Faith Lutheran 42, Cheyenne 30 — At Cheyenne, the Crusaders won four matches by pin in beating the Desert Shields.

Lance Moore (106), Justin Juntilla (138), Connor Bourne (182) and Cameron Cox (195) won by fall for Faith Lutheran.

Ryan Buchanan (160) and Isaiah Elijah Stigymon (170) had pins for Cheyenne.

Moapa Valley 48, Chaparral 12 — At Chaparral, Kyle Lyon (145), Austin Belcher (195) and Trystin Deal (220) each won by fall as the Pirates beat the Cowboys.

Moapa Valley also won five matches by forfeit. Four weight classes were double forfeits.

Ezequiel Borrero (132) and Jesus Ruiz (182) won by pin for Chaparral.

Centennial 57, Desert Oasis 18 — At Centennial, Tucker Edwards pinned his opponent in 51 seconds at 152 pounds to lead the Bulldogs over the Diamondbacks.

Omar Gonzalez (106), Nico Antuna (132), Richard Kilgore (160), Vinny Farina (195) and Dante Rios (220) also won by fall for Centennial.

Timothy Cuamba (138) and Andrew Placencia (145) won by fall for Desert Oasis.

Arbor View 64, Bonanza 9 — At Arbor View, D'Shawn Wallace-Robinson needed just 45 seconds to record a pin in the heavyweight class and help the Aggies top the Bengals.

Ryder Marchello (138) and David Ornelas (160) also recorded first-period pins for Arbor View, which won six matches by forfeit.
