Boy Scouts hope to collect 200 tons of food Saturday

The Las Vegas Boy Scouts of America will participate in the largest single-day food drive in Nevada on Saturday.

“Our goal is to collect more than 200 tons of food in the greater Las Vegas region and the outlying communities of Logandale, Overton and Mesquite,” said Jim Ness, chairman of the food drive.

The 25th annual Scouting for Food aims to collect enough canned food and dry goods to feed 55,000 people for three months. Scouts will distribute more than 425,000 unfilled bags and 8,000 door hangers throughout the community during the week leading up to the food drive. They will collect the bags Saturday.

“We, at the Salvation Army, are so gratified by this partnership with Boy Scouts of America, particularly here in Southern Nevada,” said Maj. Robert Lloyd, Clark County coordinator for the organization.
