Man flees police, lands car on roof of house

A South Carolina man has been arrested for ignoring a police siren and landing his car on the roof of a house.

An officer with the Columbia Police Department attempted to pull over Antwon L. Ashley, 31, shortly after 2 a.m. on Saturday.

Ashley ignored the officer and fled “at a high rate of speed,” according to police.

The officer followed Ashley after a short time and discovered he had wrecked the car he was in and somehow landed on the roof of a nearby house.

Ashley, a known gang member, was not in the car by the time the officer arrived, but was located and arrested. Police found crack cocaine and cash inside the vehicle.

Ashley was charged with reckless driving, driving under suspension (second offense), hit and run property damage, trafficking cocaine, distribution within close proximity of a school, opposing law enforcement, and littering on private property (more than 500 lbs.).

People were at home when the car landed on their roof, police said, but there were no injuries.

Police are not sure how Ashley managed to launch the car onto the roof of the house.
