Motorcyclist critical after early morning crash on Tropicana

A motorcycle rider was in critical condition after crashing while racing another motorcycle near the Las Vegas Strip Monday morning.

The two motorcycles were racing on Tropicana Avenue just before 3 a.m. when one of them hit a vehicle near Paradise Road, Las Vegas police lieutenant Bruce Miyama said.

The rider was thrown from the bike and was in critical condition, though his injuries were not life-threatening. The driver of the vehicle hit by the motorcycle had no injuries.

The other motorcycle rider left the scene.

Tropicana Avenue was closed in both directions between Paradise and Koval Avenue, but at 6:30 a.m. Miyama said the street was in the process of opening up.
