4.8 earthquake strikes Death Valley area

A 4.8 magnitude earthquake struck the Death Valley area on Wednesday.

The earthquake’s epicenter is about 20 miles southwest of Stovepipe Wells, California. It hit about 10:30 a.m., according to the U.S. Geological Society.
There is no immediate word on damage.
Stovepipe Wells is in the northern end of Death Valley National Park, about 170 miles northwest of Las Vegas.
The area is about 60 miles from Ridgecrest, California, where several earthquakes caused significant damage in the summer of 2018.

Twitter has been active in recent days with predictions of an earthquake in California.
Earthquake Prediction, which says it uses research from 2005 to 2020, had forecast a 6 to 7 magnitude quake near the Salton Sea within five to eight days. The tweet was posted Aug. 15.
There have been several smaller quakes across the southern half of California in recent days.
