Evacuation ordered as storm approaches North Carolina coast

Emergency officials are ordering a mandatory evacuation of a fragile barrier island along North Carolina’s Outer Banks as Tropical Storm Arthur approaches. Dare County officials said Wednesday that the mandatory evacuation of Hatteras Island would begin at 5 a.m. Thursday. After that time, no one will be allowed on the island.

No sign of missing rafter in Grand Canyon

Authorities are scaling back their search for a Phoenix man who fell into the Colorado River while on a rafting trip in Grand Canyon National Park. Park Service officials said Wednesday there is no sign of 68-year-old Victor Tseng, who was last seen on June 27 below Havasu Rapids.
