County encourages voters to get sample ballots electronically

Clark County is encouraging voters to take advantage of a new law that allows them to choose to receive their sample ballot electronically.

The county has good reason to get the word out: If every voter were to make the switch the county estimates it would save more than $1.5 million.

To see the savings, the county needs voters to switch their sample ballot preference.

Commissioner Mary Beth Scow said it took her about five minutes to make the change and noted that those voters who enjoy having a paper copy to take with them to the polls could still pitch in. Scow noted that those who opt for an electronic copy can still get a paper copy by printing the sample ballot themselves.

Voters who want to get their sample ballot electronically can tell the county by visiting www.clarkcountynv.gov/vote.

The success of the effort depends on the voters, Commissioner Steve Sisolak said.

To hammer the point home the county sent out a release with how many trees meet their demise in the name of democracy: 1,700.

The 2016 primary election is on June 14 and the general election is Nov. 8.
