2 Utah football players shot while attending party

Two University of Utah football players were shot while attending a party late Saturday night.

Utah Head Coach Kyle Whittingham confirmed the two players were sophomore left guard Lo Falemaka and freshman running back Marcel Brooks-Brown.

Salt Lake City police are searching for three male suspects they believe are responsible for the shooting, as reported by The Salt Lake Tribune.

Sgt. Robin Heiden of Salt Lake City Police Department said both victims suffered gunshot wounds to the upper torso and were in serious condition, but stable.

According to a news release from the University of Utah, both players are expected to recover from the gunshots.

"Obviously, our first concern is that both Lo and Marcel are going to be OK, which appears to be the case. We don't have all of the details yet, but it is our understanding that they are the victims in this incident and we feel very fortunate that they are expected to fully recover," Coach Kyle Whittingham stated. "It is unknown at this time how soon they will be able to return to the football field, but we are optimistic it will be in the near future."

According to police reports, the shooting happened during an altercation at a party. The three male suspects showed up unvited and were asked to leave. When the suspects refused, Falemaka and Brooks-Brown confronted them and one of the suspects pulled out a handgun and opened fire.
