K-State student cited for disorderly conduct in court-storming incident

Kansas State student Nathan Power was issued a citation for disorderly conduct by university police who said he deliberately collided with Kansas forward Jamari Traylor while storming the court in the seconds after a 70-63 upset victory over No. 8 Kansas.

Both coaches, Bill Self of Kansas and Bruce Weber of Kansas State, were pinned against the scorers table by the stampede and security failed to provide a corridor for the visiting team to exit the floor.

“Nathan Power voluntarily met with K-State police and was issued a notice to appear for disorderly conduct,” Kansas State University said in a news release. “Power was cooperative throughout the process, and the K-State Police Department considers this matter closed.”

Athletic director John Currie apologized publicly for Kansas State not doing an adequate job to ensure safety of players and all involved.

Self said in his postgame comments he was concerned about the safety of his team based on the response from Bramlage Coliseum security. It was the third time in five years the Jayhawks lost in Manhattan. Each time, students stormed the court.

A person identifying himself as Power wrote a letter of apology published by the Kansas State student newspaper, the Kansas State Collegian.

“I want to take this moment to share a sincere apology in breaking from the Wildcat way and stepping outside what is acceptable in the spirit of a game,” the letter read. “In my excitement I was not careful of the people I was around. I am sorry that I made the KU basketball team — Jamari Traylor in particular — feel disrespected.”
