Clippers lose again but still have strong fan support

Another Los Angeles loss

Alonzo Gee had 20 points to lead the Spurs to a 77-62 victory over the Clippers in an ugly game at Cox Pavilion on Saturday night in the NBA Vegas Summer League. The loss drops Los Angeles teams to 1-9 at the event. The Lakers finished 0-5, while the Clippers are now 1-4.

Al-Farouq Aminu had 16 points to pace Los Angeles, which scored just 26 points in the first half. DaJuan Blair sat out the game for San Antonio.

Over at the Thomas & Mack Center, the Kings used a late run and to overcome the first bad game for DeMarcus Cousins and beat the Bulls, 76-75.

Sacramento trailed by 14 at the half, but took some momentum when Omri Casspi hit a half-court shot to beat the third-quarter buzzer. The Kings then outscored the Bulls 23-14 over the final 10 minutes.

Casspi finished with 22 points. Cousins had 10 points and seven rebounds, but made just 3 of 15 shots from the field. Samardo Samuels paced the Bulls with 17 points.

Limited vocabulary

DeAndre Jordan had a rough stretch late in the game and wasn’t shy about letting everyone know it.

Jordan was fouled on a drive, but couldn’t complete the layup for a chance at a potential 3-point play.

He screamed an expletive, you know, the expletive, loud enough for everyone in Cox Pavilion to hear it.

The Texas A&M-educated center went to the line for a pair of free throws. He missed the first and shouted the same curse word even louder than the first time. Jordan then missed again, but didn’t scream. He spun around in disgust and shook his head as he trotted back down the court.

As he approached midcourt, he finally did what everybody was waiting for and yet again screamed out his favorite word. I wonder if he ever got an “F” at Texas A&M.

Clippers fans

For some reason, the Clippers have the best fans at summer league. They have been loud and vocal for just about every game and the support swelled to a new high today.

There were two sections at Cox Pavilion full of supporters of L.A.’s second franchise all decked out in red, white and blue.

There were fans wearing jerseys of Clippers ranging from Chris Kaman to Eric Gordon to Blake Griffin. Oh yeah, and Rondell Sheridan was here again in his Clippers gear.

The actor and comedian, best known for his role on “That’s so Raven,” is here all the time. Somebody’s got to get this guy another gig.

Early trouble

Who says the summer league results don’t matter? The coaches here have been playing each and every game to win, from their substitution patterns to their clock management and everything in between.

It makes sense. These guys are trying to show they can coach just as much as the players are trying to prove they can play.

San Antonio coach Mike Budenholzer certainly wasn’t messing around today. On his team’s first possession, Budenholzer didn’t like the way things were looking and he signaled for a timeout just 14 seconds into the game.

Whatever he said must have worked. The Spurs scored four quick points and never looked back.
