Ex-Rebels coach on Clippers’ radar

Tim Grgurich might be on the move.

Grgurich, a former UNLV assistant and head coach who currently serves as the top assistant on George Karl's staff with the Denver Nuggets, has been offered a similar position by the Los Angeles Clippers.

Warren LeGarie, Grgurich's longtime agent, confirmed Friday at the NBA Summer League that the Clippers have made Grgurich an offer and he is considering it.

"The most important thing to Tim is can he be a contributor to a team's success, especially with the young guys," LeGarie said.

Grgurich lives in Henderson and owns a home in Marina Del Rey, Calif., not far from the Clippers' practice facility. His daughter, Suzie, lives nearby.

"This is not about money," LeGarie said. "It's about feeling that he's making a difference. (The Clippers) have a lot of young players he could work with, and (point guard) Baron Davis loves him."

The Nuggets are not commenting. When asked about Grgurich, Clippers coach-general manager Mike Dunleavy said, "We don't talk about moves in public." Grgurich also declined comment.

The Clippers also reportedly are pursuing Allen Iverson. Iverson played in Denver and was coached by Grgurich, and, according to LeGarie, the two became close during Iverson's two-year stay with the Nuggets. Grgurich's hiring could be what ultimately convinces Iverson to come to L.A.

LeGarie said a decision should be made in a couple of weeks.

"With Gurg, you never put a timetable on it," he said."

The Grgurich-Clippers negotiation first was reported on ESPN.com. Grgurich has been coaching in the NBA since he left UNLV early during the 1994-95 season when he was the Rebels' head coach. He had worked in Seattle, Milwaukee, Phoenix and Portland before joining Karl in Denver in 2005.

• TEAM USA CHANGES -- New York's David Lee and Boston's Glen Davis will not participate in next week's USA Basketball minicamp at Valley High School because neither player is under contract.

Golden State's Anthony Randolph has been added to the roster, which now stands at 24. Practice begins Wednesday under the direction of Toronto Raptors coach Jay Triano.

• FOUL PLAY -- In the summer league, a player is disqualified after receiving his 10th foul. Through eight days of play, three players -- Detroit's DaJuan Summers, Chicago's Taj Gibson and San Antonio's Ian Mahinmi -- have fouled out.

Summers fouled out Friday against Cleveland early in the fourth quarter after scoring 12 points. Gibson fouled out Wednesday against Milwaukee.

Mahinmi had the dubious distinction of securing a unique triple-double when the Spurs' 6-foot-11-inch center finished with 12 points, 16 rebounds and 10 fouls against Denver on Tuesday.
