Atlanta wraps up day with easy win

Jeff Teague scored 19 points to lead the Hawks to a 93-84 victory over the D-League stars in the final game of Day 9 of the NBA Vegas Summer League at the Thomas & Mack Center.

Jordan Crawford added 18 points for Atlanta, which led by as many as 24 points in the game. Mark Tyndale had 21 points and Curtis Withers scored 19 for the D-League team.

Over at Cox Pavilion, former UNR guard Luke Babbitt scored 15 points as the Trail Blazers knocked off the Timberwolves, 67-60. Patrick O’Bryant had 16 points and 10 rebounds for Minnesota, and Deon Thompson added 13 points and 12 boards.

Dance Class

Jeremy Pargo took time out from pregame warmups to dance to the hit song, “Teach Me How To Dougie,” when it came on over the P.A. system.

He had all the steps down and several teammates joined in getting down to the Cali Swag District hit.

Pargo had almost the entire team laughing, with one notable exception. Kosuke Takeuchi appeared to have zero time or patience for the antics. His look of complete indifference could have been disgust or just a genuine lack of understanding of what was going on around him.

I really need to know why the Japanese forward didn’t want to learn how to Dougie.

Decent propsoal

Jeff Pendergraph wouldn’t be the first person to come to Las Vegas and get married.

It probably wasn’t on his itinerary though. A woman dressed in a Brandon Roy jersey capped off her outfit with a bridal veil and held up a sign that said, “Jeff Pendergraph, will you marry me?” Pendergraph saw the sign before the game and got out of the layup line to pose for a picture with the woman.

Unbeknownst to her, Roy was actually in the building to watch the game. If she had known that, she could have set her sights on Portland’s star player instead.

A whole different person

Atlanta’s James Augustine is completely unrecognizable. Augustine always stood out on the floor when he was at Illinois in the middle of the decade, often completely shaving his big head.

Now he’s rocking the beginnings of a curly, mini-fro along with a great goatee. The NBA TV broadcast crew even started in on Augustine’s look, including one of them saying the center could “play for the White Shadow.”

Webster here to watch old friends and new

Martell Webster was in the crowd, sitting with his new head coach Kurt Rambis. Webster was traded from Portland to Minnesota on draft night and was talking shop with his new coach while watching his new teammates play his old organization.

It must have felt like some sort of bizarro world.
