Hasbrouck leads Heat to win
Former Siena star Kenny Hasbrouck scored 24 points to help the Miami Heat to a 77-72 win over New Orleans in the final game of Day 3 of the NBA Vegas Summer League at Cox Pavilion.
Jon Scheyer, a Duke alum, hit a 3-pointer with 35 seconds left to give the Heat the lead or good. Miami trailed by seven entering the fourth quarter.
Another former Blue Devil, Shavlik Randolph, finished with 18 points and six rebounds for the Heat.
Marcus Thornton had 14 points to pace the Hornets.
The action has concluded for today. Tomorrow will be the first day of games at both the Thomas & Mack and Cox Pavilion.
Games here start at 1 p.m., while a three-game slate at the Mack tips off at 3:30.
From summer league to winning a ring?
Despite not having a single player drafted in the first round of last month’s draft, Miami may be one of the most interesting entrants in the history of the Vegas Summer League.
The Heat have just five players signed to their regular season roster, so the organization is clearly searching for bodies that can contribute to what is expected to be a title-contending team.
Head coach Erik Spoelstra kept a watchful eye on the game from about five rows up in the stands, no doubt trying to figure out which players from the summer league roster would fit well with the newly-crowned trio, “Miami Thrice.”
Translation: Who can pass, rebound, not complain about never getting any shots, play for the league minimum and occasionally do Dwyane, LeBron and Chris’s laundry.

Rebels in the house
Justin Hawkins has arrived to take in tonight’s games. The sophomore-to-be at UNLV no doubt has visions of one day joining the NBA players out on the court.
Hawkins is joined up at the top of the arena by Darris Santee, who’s eligibility has just run out.
Where’d everyone go?
This place cleared out quickly after the John Wall circus was over.
By the time the last game of the night tipped off, nearly half of the crowd had left the building.
How could they leave?
Didn’t they realize former Indiana and Ohio Univesity guard Armon Bassett would be playing for New Orleans in the final game of the night?
Feeling old
Not so long ago, I was the youngest member of the RJ sports staff.
That is certainly not the case any longer. The point was driven home today.
Boyz II Men is currently performing over at the Orleans. One of their first and biggest hits, “Motownphilly” was playing over the loud speaker during a break in the action and I mentioned the fact they were in concert tonight.
While he had somewhat heard of the group, he wasn’t really familiar with many of their songs.
They were the biggest thing around when I was in high school.
Very depressing.
