NBA owners arrive for summer meetings

It's an important day for the NBA, as the Board of Governors has its summer meetings this morning at Encore.

All 30 owners are in town, but what is on the agenda is a closely guarded secret. Deputy commissioner Adam Silver, who attended Wednesday's night session of the NBA Summer League, said he couldn't comment on what will be discussed.

Commissioner David Stern will brief the media after the meeting. Among the topics likely to come up will be the Sacramento Kings' arena situation, the free-agency period that has seen several notable moves, and the possibility of placing an under-23 age restriction on Olympic basketball rosters. Stern has been a proponent of going younger in the Olympics with the older players competing in a separate competition like the World Cup of Basketball.

Most of the owners have watched their team in action in the summer league the past couple of days. Seen at courtside or in the stands: the Knicks' James Dolan, the Rockets' Leslie Alexander, the Kings' Joe and Gavin Maloof, the Lakers' Jim Buss, the Raptors' Larry Tannenbaum, the Suns' Robert Sarver and the Nuggets' Stan Kroenke.

■ ROCKETS, WIZARDS WRAP UP - On the day the team formally introduced Jeremy Lin, Houston's summer league team finished its week with a 96-88 victory over Chicago on Wednesday.

The Rockets, who went 4-1, got a glimpse of their future as Jeremy Lamb, the No. 12 overall selection in last month's draft, averaged 20 points.

The Washington Wizards also finished play Wednesday, going 3-2 after defeating Milwaukee, 78-75. Rookie guard Bradley Beal finished his solid week by leading Washington with 18 points. He averaged a team-best 17.6 points.

■ JIMMER TOUGHS IT OUT - Jimmer Fredette's tough week continued, as the Kings' second-year guard struggled from the field, then banged his left knee on the Thomas & Mack Center floor after a fall in the fourth quarter of a 96-89 loss to Toronto.

Fredette had 19 points, but it came on 5-for-17 shooting, including 2-for-9 on 3-pointers. He came up hobbling midway through the fourth quarter after losing his balance and tumbling to the ground. But he finished the game and is likely to play in the Kings' finale at 3:30 p.m. today against the Boston Celtics.
