NBA Summer League Day 1 Results

Friday’s games

■ Bucks 81, Cavaliers 75 — Thon Maker had 15 points and 13 rebounds and made two blocks down the stretch for the Bucks on the first day of the summer league. Jordan McRae scored 23 points to lead Cleveland.

■ Grizzlies 99, D-League Select 79 — Andrew Harrison scored 23 points for Memphis, which led by as many as 33 points. Verdell Jones led the D-Leaguers with 12 points.

■ Hawks 83, Rockets 78 — Atlanta held Houston to 35 percent shooting from the field while surviving an anemic performance from the free-throw line, where the Hawks made 61 percent. Kevin Pangos led Atlanta with 16 points, and Bruce Cotton scored 14. Sam Dekker scored 18 and Kyle Wiltjer 13 for the Rockets.

■ Nuggets 88, Timberwolves 82 — Denver used an 11-0 run in a four-minute span overlapping the third and fourth quarters to beat Minnesota, which made only 4 of 20 3-point attempts. Emmanuel Mudiay led the Nuggets with 23 points, and Gary Harris had 22. Kris Dunn scored 27 for the Timberwolves.

■ Raptors 88, Kings 47 — Toronto built a 45-23 halftime lead against Sacramento, which tied the summer league record for fewest points in a game. The Raptors were paced by Norman Powell with 13 points. The Kings played without Georgio Papagiannis, their 7-foot-1-inch rookie center, because of stiffness in his left knee. He will undergo a precautionary MRI on Saturday. Former UNLV forward Derrick Jones did not play for the Kings (coach’s decision).

■ Lakers 85, Pelicans 65 — D’Angelo Russell scored 20 points and Brandon Ingram 12 in his NBA debut with Los Angeles. New Orleans, 3 of 20 from 3-point range, was led by rookie Buddy Hield with 13 points.

On the scene

Dwight Howard, the latest addition to the Atlanta Hawks, was in Las Vegas working out with the summer league team. The 30-year-old Atlanta native said he wants to bring an NBA title to his hometown and that he was excited about finishing his career with the Hawks. The 13-year veteran averaged 13.7 points last season with the Houston Rockets before signing a three-year, $70.5 million deal with Atlanta.
