Raptors roll Knicks

DeMar DeRozan scored 23 points to help the Toronto Raptors stay unbeaten in the summer league with a 102-89 win over New York at Cox Pavilion in the NBA Vegas Summer League on Wednesday.
Sonny Weems added 19 points on 9 of 13 shooting for Toronto.
Landry Fields came off the bench to score 19 points to pace New York, which got only 31 points combined from its five starters. Toney Douglas had 13 points and six assists for by far the most impressive performance of any of the Knicks’ starters.
Over at the Thomas & Mack Center, Alonzo Gee scored 24 points to help the Spurs to an 89-84 win over the Hawks.
Curtis Jerrells added 20 points for San Antonio.
Jordan Crawford showed he could do more than dunk on LeBron, leading Atlanta with 20 points. Trey Gilder and Jeff Teague each scored 15 for the Hawks.
Each team attempted 40 free throws in a game that was slowed down horribly by all the whistles.

Livengood visiting old friends

UNLV athletic director Jim Livengood was in attendance to watch the Houston Rockets this morning.
He was there to watch former Arizona stars Chase Budinger and Jordan Hill, who are once again teammates with the Rockets.
Livengood was the athletic director in Tucson when the duo starred for the Wildcats.

Nice guy

Several kids shouted at Jordan Hill after the Houston game this morning to get the center’s jersey.
The Rockets concluded their schedule and the kids knew Hill wouldn’t need it anymore.
Hill obliged and pulled the jersey off and tossed it to the children.
At the last second, a middle-aged man in a John Elway jersey swooped in to grab the jersey from the kids. He was quite proud of the souvenir, but several people in the area did not approve of the methods used to acquire it.
Elway guy simply didn’t care.
In fact, he was gladly showing it off around the concourse.
He’s a real winner.

Not-so-identical

There were two very tall twins sitting in the front row for the Knicks-Raptors game.
NBA players Brook and Robin Lopez were taking in the action.
Brook, an emerging star for the Nets, would have been somewhat difficult to recognize had it not been for his height. He was trying his best to blend in with a hat on.
Robin, coming off a solid season in Phoenix, was letting his “Sideshow Bob” hair fly and could have been spotted a mile away.
