HIGHLIGHTS
Knicks 71, Lakers 63 -- New York forced 20 turnovers. The Lakers were limited to eight second-quarter points and unable to overcome a 17-point third-quarter deficit.
Kings 97, Pistons 68 -- Omri Casspi led five Sacramento players in double figures with 16 points and Tyrese Rice added 15 off the bench.
Mavericks 73, Bucks 72 -- Rodrigue Beaubois hit a running jumper with 5.8 seconds left in overtime to lift Dallas to victory. Beaubois helped force the extra period with a lob pass that J.R. Giddens scored on at the end of regulation. Moments before, Deron Washington's putback with three-tenths of a second remaining broke a 64-64 tie.
Wizards 89, Clippers 64 -- John Wall had 15 points and 10 assists as Washington improved to 2-0.
Spurs 85, Timberwolves 61 -- San Antonio survived 28 turnovers, forcing 27 by Minnesota. San Antonio's Dwayne Mitchell scored 12 points off the bench in just 8½ minutes.
Suns 96, D-League 88 -- After two lopsided losses, Phoenix got its first win as rookie center Earl Clark scored 18 points.
Grizzlies 89, Hawks 85 -- O.J. Mayo scored 20 points and Sam Young added 19 to lead Memphis.
STARS
■ Kings rookie center DeMarcus Cousins made his NBA debut with 14 points and 10 rebounds in Sacramento's rout of Detroit.
■ Mavericks guard Rodrigue Beaubois overcame eight fouls and six turnovers to finish with 15 points and seven assists against Milwaukee. He hit the game-winning shot in Dallas' overtime win.
HOYAS REUNION
Former Knicks star Patrick Ewing and John Thompson, his college coach at Georgetown, sat together for the Knicks-Lakers game. Ewing, an assistant coach with the Orlando Magic, was in town to watch son Patrick Jr. play for New York. Thompson has been at the Summer League every day. The younger Ewing had eight points and five rebounds along with four blocked shots as the Knicks beat the Los Angeles Lakers.
RARE TRIPLE-DOUBLE
Only in the Summer League can a guy earn the kind of triple-double that Phoenix Suns forward Gani Lawal did. Lawal collected 10 personal fouls to go with 15 points and 11 rebounds in the Suns' win over the D-League Select at the Thomas & Mack Center.
HOBSON WAITS PATIENTLY
Bucks rookie swingman and Las Vegas native Darington Hobson said he'll probably need "three to four weeks" to fully recover from a right groin muscle injury he suffered practicing in Milwaukee. Hobson, who attended Western High School as a freshman, said he expects to be ready for training camp. "I'm just staying focused," said Hobson, the No. 37 pick in the draft out of New Mexico. "I'm soaking in all the information I need to and hopefully I can help this team in multiple positions."
LOOKing AHEAD
In the old days, the Cleveland Cavaliers' Summer League opener was cause for excitement because of the possibility that LeBron James might show up and watch. Now that James is in Miami, the Cavs, who open against the D-League Select at 3 p.m. today at Cox Pavilion, don't figure to generate a whole lot of buzz. Unless you're a Maciej Lampe fan.
QUOTABLE
"If somebody has some formal charge they'd like to lodge based upon a variety of gossip, bound together with some innuendo, infused by hearsay, I'd be happy to receive the charge, and we'll take care of it from that point on." -- NBA commissioner David Stern, dismissing the notion there was collusion or tampering in Miami's signing LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh.
