Thunder road — to ruin
July 18, 2009 - 2:21 pm
The Oklahoma City Thunder became the first summer league team to get to five -- losses, that is, as they were run out of Cox Pavilion by the Dallas Mavericks, 73-54.
What’s painful about that, Brian Keefe, one of the good guys to play at UNLV, was OKC’s head coach for the summer league. He deserved a better fate.
“No, it was fine,” Keefe said. “It was a great opportunity for me to get to know our players better and see their strengths and weaknesses.”
Knicks up next.
The Knicks are on the court to face Chicago in Game Two in the Cox. Bulls coach Vinny Del Negro has been on hand as has his father, Vince Sr. Quick story: I’m visiting the Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, Mass., a couple of years ago and this elderly gentleman comes over to me at one of the exhibits and asks me if I need any help, since the new hall had just opened.
We start talking hoops and he tells me he has a son who played in the NBA.
Sure enough, it was Vinny’s dad, who worked as a volunteer at the hall.
This week, he’s in Vegas checking out the games. Small world.
Will Wink get in?
The Knicks and Bulls have tipped off. The question is, does Wink Adams see the floor?
The former UNLV star has only played seven minutes in three games. The guess is, yes, he gets in, but not for very long.
