Wizards lose without stars
July 17, 2010 - 3:23 pm
Leo Lyons scored 21 points off the bench as New York pulled out a 109-107 overtime victory against Washington in the first game of Day 9 at Cox Pavilion in the NBA Vegas Summer League.
The Wizards played without John Wall and JaVale McGee, but nearly stole the win when Trevor Booker’s half-court heave at the final overtime buzzer hit the backboard and the rim.
Toney Douglas added 19 points and six assists for the Knicks.
Cartier Martin scored 24 points and Kevin Palmer added 21 for Washington. Lester Hudson had 19 points and nine assists.
Bittersweet
The overflow card that witnessed the day’s opening game was treated to a thrilling contest.
Just about everyone was on the edge of their seats as Trevor Booker’s desperation overtime heave just missed its mark.
It just wasn’t what they came to see.
John Wall, the No. 1 overall pick in last month’s draft, did not dress for the game.
He was clearly the reason so many people packed themselves into Cox Pavilion this morning.
Former UNR center JaVale McGee, one of the most impressive players this week, also sat out today’s game.
It was a nice relaxing day in Las Vegas for what could potentially be 40 percent of the Wizards’ starting lineup.
As always, it’s all about the fans.
