Colorado State sweep of Utah sends Utes into tourney opener vs. UNLV

FORT COLLINS, Colo. -- Travis Franklin scored 16 points and Colorado State ended a five-game losing streak with a 76-67 victory over Utah on Saturday.

Travis Busch scored 12 points and Andy Ogide and Greg Smith 10 each for Colorado State (16-14, 7-9 Mountain West).

The Rams, who clinched the No. 5 seed in this week's conference tournament at the Thomas & Mack Center, swept the regular-season series from the Utes for the first time since 2005-06.

Marshall Henderson led Utah (14-16, 7-9) with 18 points.

The Utes will be the No. 6 seed in the tournament and will open against No. 3 seed UNLV in Thursday's quarterfinals.

■ No. 14 Brigham Young 107, Texas Christian 77 -- At Fort Worth, Texas, Jonathan Tavernari scored 23 points and Jackson Emery and Charles Abouo 22 each as the Cougars routed the Horned Frogs.

Jimmer Fredette finished with 18 points for BYU (28-4, 13-3 MWC).

Ronnie Moss had 17 points to pace the Horned Frogs (13-18, 5-11).

■ San Diego State 61, Air Force 42 -- At Air Force Academy, Colo., Malcolm Thomas and Kawhi Leonard each scored 18 points as the Aztecs beat the Falcons.

San Diego State (22-8, 11-5 MWC) finished the regular season by winning six of seven, and it beat Air Force (9-20, 1-15) for the fifth consecutive time.
