TODAY AT hollywood PARK
By Richard Eng
Post Time 1 p.m.
Race 1 - 4 1/2 furlongs, Purse $27,000, Maiden claiming $40,000, Fillies, 2-year-olds
3 Citizen Bernstein - FTS from Jeff Bonde; was working well in Pleasonton, debuts with Joel Rosario up.
6 Kiptiddy Do - Tepid chalk woke up last time with a good second; if she wins it'll show there wasn't much in the race.
Long Shot - 2 Clearly Confused
Race 2 - 1 1/16th miles, Purse $20,000, Maiden claiming $20,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
3 Malibu Love - Ran well, but second best last out off a 4-month hiatus; figures to be a lot tighter for this.
6 Red Intrigue - Sliding down the maiden claiming ladder to this bottom level; will be forwardly placed on the stretch out.
Long Shot - 4 Swift Anticipation
Race 3 - 1 mile (turf, rail at 20 feet), Purse $40,000, Claiming $40,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
1 Going for a Spin - Ran huge first off the claim by Mike Mitchell; he reclaimed this filly, a strong trainer angle.
4 Talktoomuch - Wasn't quick enough to rally into a fast pace; suspect she'll do much better in a slower paced mile.
Long Shot - 6 Linda Lou
Race 4 - 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $20,000, Maiden claiming $20,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
6 Love My Girl - Don't you like betting horses that didn't finish last time out; value from a clipped heels, lost rider race.
9 Miss Maddie Bee - Set a wickedly fast pace in debut, albeit for a half mile; that might be enough to bust a move here.
Long Shot - 4 Kentucky Tale
Race 5 - 6 furlongs (turf, rail at 20 feet), Purse $57,000, Optional claiming $62,500, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
1 Caribaya Queen - Sharp win from an outside post in last, now begins from the wood; saves all the ground and grinds late.
4 Jet Blue Girl - Been away 9-months and returns for a price tag; hot Peter Eurton barn, key question is fitness today.
Long Shot - 7 Gem of Soul
Race 6 - 6 furlongs, Purse $54,000, Allowance, Cal-breds, 3-year-olds and up
7 The Black - Ran a better than looked race in the Derby Trial; faced toughies at Churchill, soft spot here to be the boss.
1 On My Honor - Third start off a 10-month hiatus; should move forward where this may be his best start yet.
Long Shot - 3 Caffeine High
Race 7 - 6 furlongs, Purse $62,000, Optional claiming $100,000, 3-year-olds and up
4 Racing Aptitude - Bob Baffert has an uncoupled entry so caveat emptor; his Hollywood win was the best race of his career.
3 Italian Rules - Second best in the Tiznow last out; his win two back is fast enough to upset these for John Sadler.
Long Shot - 6 Indian Firewater
Race 8 - 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $21,000, Claiming $16,000, 3-year-olds and up
1 Good Lite - Ran well off the claim for second; suspect will hold value with low percentage connections.
2 Romaine - Impressive maiden claiming win at 15/1 odds; his debut race earned a -0 Beyer, not much for the resume.
Long Shot - 5 Cragmont
Best Bet - 7 The Black (race 6)
Betfair Hollywood Park Sunday - Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 18/5/$30.00; Long Shots, 9/1/$18.80; Best Bet, 1/1/$5.40
Betfair Hollywood Park Totals - 272/67/$464.40; Long Shots, 139/22/$213.40; Best Bets, 13/4/$16.00
SIMULCAST PLAY OF THE DAY - #5 Dr Ballenger (5/2) in race 6 at Churchill Downs. For scoring purposes, we'll make a hypothetical $2 win, place and show bet, $6 total. On Sunday, Achilles was scratched at Belmont Park. Stats - 78/51/$441.70; Follow him on Twitter: @richeng4propick
