Horse Racing, Hollywood Park, 11/17/11
November 17, 2011 - 2:01 am
Today at Hollywood Park
Post Time 12:30 p.m.
Race 1 - 1 1/16th miles, Purse $45,000, Maiden special weights, Fillies, 2-year-olds
3 Stormy Randie - Dead late closer should get a leg up exiting a turf route; might be the only one finishing.
7 Milania - Logical chalk is developing an early case of seconditis; stretching out for the first time.
Long Shot - 5 Wild Date
Race 2 - 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $25,000, Maiden claiming $40,000, Cal-breds, Fillies, 2-year-olds
5 Peppy Bolly - Huge rider switch to Joe Talamo for the money shot; has improved a lot running for a price tag.
8 Unusual Hottie - I like the 2 FTS with top riders, Joel Rosario and Rafael Bejarano, to maybe take the bacon.
Long Shot - 6 Freckles Galore
Race 3 - 1 1/16th miles, Purse $24,000, Claiming $16,000, 3-year-olds
5 Rhythm in May - Ran evenly in first start off the claim for Mike Mitchell; expect improvement tonight.
1 Gatheratthealter - Claimed by Dan Hendricks off a sharp second; will save all of the ground throughout.
Long Shot - 6 Fire Seeker
Race 4 - 1 1/16th miles, Purse $34,000, Claiming $32,000, 3-year-olds and up
6 Spurrier - Bob Baffert cull runs first time for a price tag; suspect he might get claimed for $32K bargain.
1 Achak - Dead late closer in a race with some cheap early speed; figures to hug the rail and rally in the lane.
Long Shot - 4 Willyconker
Race 5 - 6 furlongs, Purse $21,000, Claiming $12,500, 3-year-olds
6 Los Bomberos - Won his last like a good thing at this class level; found a preferred style, sit and pounce late.
5 Edgewick Road - Finished behind Los Bomberos who got the jump on him; can't change his style, has no early speed.
Long Shot - 10 Gibson Home Run
Race 6 - 1 1/16th miles (turf, rail at 15 feet), Purse $45,000, Maiden special weights, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
6 Tizalwaysomething - Solid second down the hillside course in last; should show a lot more speed on the stretch out.
2 Heidi Maria - Good turf debut in last; showed good tactical speed, a big help with the turf rail out 15 feet.
Long Shot - 3 Roxanne O
Race 7 - 1 1/8th miles, Purse $52,000, Optional claiming $62,500, 3-year-olds and up
1 Kettle Corn - Looks like his preferred surface is synthetics; his win 2 back at Del Mar is fast enough to beat these.
4 Java Man - John Sadler has an uncoupled entry; looks like one of them will get their photo taken, possible this guy.
Long Shot - 6 Uncle Sam
Race 8 - 1 1/16th miles, Purse $45,000, Maiden special weights, 3-year-olds and up
1 Admission - Suspect will hold his value with Ramon Guce up; he sure looks fast enough to me to upset this field.
8 Maestro - Logical chalk won a race but was DQ'd; still trying to get back to that career topper, more than capable.
Long Shot - 7 Candy Sweetheart
Best Bet - 5 Rhythm in May (race 3)
Hollywood Park Sunday - Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 16/6/$27.20; Long Shots, 9/1/$7.80; Best Bet, 1/1/$2.80
Hollywood Park Totals - 64/20/$114.60; Long Shots, 34/4/$40.40; Best Bets, 4/3/$8.40
SIMULCAST PLAY OF THE DAY - #8 Cypress Isle (4/1) in race 8 at Churchill Downs. For scoring purposes, we'll make a hypothetical $2 win, place and show bet, $6 total. On Sunday, Silent Appeal ran out at Aqueduct. Stats - 175/114/$905.90. Follow him on Twitter: @richeng4propick
