Horse Racing: Today at Del Mar, July 29

Post Time 2:05 p.m.

Race 1 – 6 furlongs, Purse $40,000, Starter allowance $40,000, 3-year-olds and up

7 Oil – Has run fast enough in his last three races to crush these; big rider switch to Victor Espinoza for the money shot, like the outside post too.

1 He Will – Has no early speed so Flavien Prat will sit back and make one run; the rail hasn’t been great but he should be able to do a rally wide in the lane.

Long Shot – 3 Hye I’m Jack

Race 2 – 6 furlongs, Purse $70,000, Maiden special weights, Cal-breds, 3-year-olds and up

7 Where Was Eddie – Ran fast and well despite a career debut on grass down the hillside turf course; switches to dirt for trainer Ben Cecil.

3 Worldwide – Ran OK in his career debut; Ron Ellis is having a sharp meet, despite the upset loss by Masochistic, and his babies improve a lot second time out.

Long Shot – 4 Nooten

Race 3 – 5 furlongs (turf, rail at 30 feet), Purse $75,000, Optional claiming $62,500, 3-year-olds and up

6 Horse Laugh – Incredibly difficult opener to the Pick 6; this horse will fly home if the early pace is overly contested, Drayden Van Dyke will sit chilly.

1 Serbian Syclone – Speedball has one option from the rail; the rail post is OK if you push hard early and then get into the three or four path quickly.

Long Shot – 7 Tizcano

Race 4 – 5 furlongs, Purse $26,000, Maiden claiming $30,000, Fillies, 2-year-olds

6 Rich Girl – Sliding down the maiden claiming ladder to the lowest level of her brief career; like that Rafael Bejarano remains loyal to the cause.

11 Wish I Understood – Has a huge shot for a graduation photo, but mush draw into the field off the also eligible list; a Bob Baffert cull with Martin Garcia up.

Long Shot – 3 Tequila Mary

Race 5 – 1 mile (turf, rail at 30 feet), Purse $70,000, Maiden special weights, Fillies, 2-year-olds

3 Land Over Sea – Hard to gauge her debut in a miniature 5-horse field at Los Alamitos; she ran an OK time, now trying grass for the first time.

7 Warm Endowment – Another filly who debuted at Los Alamitos but at least it was a 9-horse field; has turf pedigree by Unusual Heat and Corey Nakatani up.

Long Shot – 1 She’s On the Line

Race 6 – 6 furlongs, Purse $72,000, Optional claiming $20,000, Cal-breds, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

3 Bonus Spin – Hasn’t been seen since October, returns for white hot trainer Jeff Mullins; expect the tote board to be humming over this filly.

1 Lucky Student – Early speed and the rail, though the rail has not been so great at Del Mar; Edwin Maldonado best break sharp and move into the three path quickly.

Long Shot – 5 Awesome Luck

Race 7 – 1 mile (turf, rail at 30 feet), Purse $50,000, Claiming $40,000, Fillies, 3-year-olds

7 Housemaker – Tiny edge in what may be the most difficult race in this Pick 6; with a carryover of $562K, most everybody in the place is taking a shot.

8 Belle Et Bete – Sliding down the claiming ladder to this career low class; HOF Mike Smith has been picking his spots so if he shows up like this please take notice.

Long Shot – 6 Sister of Mercy

Race 8 – 6 ½ furlongs, Purse $27,000, Claiming $16,000, 3-year-olds and up

1 Shakahari – Has finished in the money six straight times; he is overdue to get his photo taken, unless he is camera shy and refuses to pass the final horse.

10 Jimmy’s Date – Peter Miller has done very well with shippers from New Mexico; they get shipped to him ready to run and they’re eligible for the ship and win bonus.

Long Shot – 9 No Ez Money

Best Bet - 7 Oil (race 1)
