Horse Racing: Today at Del Mar, July 30

Post Time 2:05 p.m.
Race 1 – 1 mile, Purse $40,000, Claiming $25,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
5 Itz a Saint – Her last race was a real doozy, a breakout victory a year ago at Del Mar; hasn't been seen since, but the tote board should tell us a lot.
2 La Casadora – Claimed by trainer Bill Spawr out of a win and then given some time; he is most deadly in these situations, when he has time to work on a horse.
Long Shot – 6 Wild Caroline
Race 2 – 5 ½ furlongs, Purse $26,000, Claiming $12,500, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
4 Power of Nine – If you haven't noticed, Golden Gate Fields shippers have been tearing them up at Del Mar; I theorize it's the training over Tapeta surface.
3 Shared Image – This Golden Gate Fields shipper was sent to Los Alamitos and airballed; got claimed by Andy Mathis who finds a nice spot for her.
Long Shot – 6 Sugar Spice
Race 3 – 1 mile (turf, rail at 30 feet), Purse $50,000, Claiming $40,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
6 Zanbo – Was claimed for $40K three races ago by trainer Peter Miller; he drops her back into that class which makes her very live tonight.
2 Agustina de Aragon – Here is another Golden Gate Fields shipper from John Martin barn; I suspect horseplayers will wise up to this angle very quickly.
Long Shot – 8 Loveintheshadows
Race 4 – 5 furlongs, Purse $26,000, Maiden claiming $30,000, 2-year-olds
6 Unbridled Rocket – Taking the biggest class drop in racing from MSW to maiden claiming; Vann Belvoir adding blinkers on, hoping to add to win total too.
7 Excite Me – Interesting morning line favorite in his career debut; live barn of trainer Bob Hess and longtime sidekick Kent Desormeaux.
Long Shot – 8 Dixie Writer
Race 5 – 1 mile (turf, rail at 30 feet), Purse $72,000, Allowance, Cal-breds, 3-year-olds and up
2 Gangnam Guy – Sharp win over the Del Mar main track in last; has plenty of good turf experience albeit is winless in 10 career starts on the green.
7 Tiz Futurity – Talk about class relief from the grade 3 San Juan Capistrano for this; he's fast enough to give these trouble and has HOF Alex Solis up.
Long Shot – 1 Fritz Johansen
Race 6 – 1 mile, Purse $70,000, Maiden special weights, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
1 She's Reddy – Did everything but win last time at Los Alamitos; faced a softer group than this, key vote is Rafael Bejarano remains loyal to the cause.
5 Cassandras Chase – Turned in a strong second last time at Santa Anita; the unknown is stretching out around 2-turns for the first time.
Long Shot – 9 Boat Drinks
Race 7 – 1 1/16th miles (turf, rail at 30 feet), Purse $78,000, Optional claiming $80,000, 3-year-olds and up
4 Power Ped – Gets class relief from the grade 1 Eddie Read and grade 2 San Marcos for this; Neil Drysdale wants a win to boost his confidence.
3 Play Hard to Get – Lost less than a length in this same condition last time out; will need some pace to chase as he doesn't have a drop of early speed.
Long Shot – 2 Little Jerry
Race 8 – 6 furlongs, Purse $20,000, Maiden claiming $20,000, 3-year-olds and up
2 Next Book – Sliding down the maiden claiming ladder to the bottom; he has some back class races that are clearly fast enough to drub these into dust.
8 Eagle Rock – Taking the same class drop as my top choice; with only two career starts, that is a positive when you're talking about the bottom rung.
Long Shot – 11 Barbary Coast
Best Bet - 4 Power Ped (race 7)
Del Mar Wednesday - Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 13/1/$3.40; Long Shots, 8/1/$28.80; Best Bet, 1/0/$0
Del Mar Totals - 169/35/$259.00; Long Shots, 82/14/$185.00; Best Bets, 9/1/$5.00
