TODAY AT HOLLYWOOD PARK

By Richard Eng

Post Time 12:30 p.m.

Race 1 - 6 furlongs, Purse $25,000, Claiming $25,000, 3-year-olds and up

4 A Toe by Three - Sliding down the claiming ladder to this career low class; his race two back, if repeated, would crush these.

5 Clear - Been well bet in all career starts; been away almost a full year, watch the tote board for comeback clues.

Long Shot - 2 Nonrefundable

Race 2 - 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $18,000, Maiden claiming $20,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

9 Sugar Spice - Was hammered down in debut and ran a good second; claimed by Vann Belvoir who wins her off the shake.

5 Scary Ride - The ones with experience look so bad in here, the FTS must be considered; from the maestro Jerry Hollendorfer.

Long Shot - 7 My Netanya

Race 3 - 6 furlongs (turf), $65,000 Cool Air, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

3 Broken Dreams - Turf specialist passed an exhausted leader in the late stages in last; key is if he can repeat a monster race.

4 Kindle - Set a blistering pace in last before slowing to a walk late; probably no need to lead by 5-lengths early on.

Long Shot - 5 Journaliste

Race 4 - 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $32,000, Starter allowance $40,000, 2-year-olds

7 Warren's Rocky - Class relief from a difficult Cal Cup for this; his race two back is fast enough to beat these.

5 Disarm - His two races off the claim by John Sadler are good; facing winners for the first time.

Long Shot - 3 Luz Atticus

Race 5 - 1 mile (turf), Purse $45,000, Maiden special weights, Cal-breds, 2-year-olds

2 Real Heat - Really didn't have much chance in last turf sprint; should relish 2-turn pace which will be much softer.

5 Surfcup - FTS from Bob Baffert; the ones with experience don't stick out much, so watch the tote board for clues.

Long Shot - 6 Rob's Pal

Race 6 - 6 furlongs, Purse $27,000, Claiming $20,000, Fillies, 3-year-olds

4 Woebegon - Finally found his friends last time in a workmanlike victory; flattered when Hout Bay won next out.

6 Almost a Lady - Another who won last time but was not raised in class; appears like a useful sort if claimed again.

Long Shot - 3 Yuma Thurman

Race 7 - 1 mile (turf), Purse $45,000, Maiden special weights, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

3 Dime Piece - Did everything but win last time in a solid second; she'll need pace again to do her best running late.

2 Level Headed - Looks like she is still learning how to run; like that Garrett Gomez stays loyal, first call for Tom Proctor.

Long Shot - 4 Readyforhercloseup

Race 8 - 1 1/16th miles, Purse $48,000, Optional claiming $40,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

6 Golden Production - Never been out of the money in 5 career starts; tactical speed to sit a perfect trip.

3 Stanwyck - Well regarded filly finally won after being favored 3 races in a row; now facing winners for the first time.

Long Shot - 4 Ghost of a Chance

Race 9 - 1 1/16th miles (turf), $250,000 Citation Handicap, 3-year-olds and up

6 Jeranimo - Getting a little long in the tooth, but he can still run; his best grass surface has always been Hollywood.

2 Doubles Partner - Julien Leparoux fits like a glove in the SoCal rider colony; basically traded Joel Rosario for Leparoux.

Long Shot - 1 Ultimate Eagle

Race 10 - 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $18,000, Maiden claiming $20,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

10 Ya Wanna Hug - Continues to draw parking lot posts; Richard Mandella adding bliner on to this barn cull.

2 My Bashert - Taking the biggest class drop in racing from MSW to maiden claiming; need not be much to compete with these.

Long Shot - 6 Courageousandbold

Best Bet - 9 Sugar Spice (race 2)

Hollywood Park Thursday - Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 17/5/$27.20; Long Shots, 9/1/$6.80; Best Bet, 1/1/$3.20
