Horse Racing: Today at Los Alamitos, July 12
July 11, 2015 - 11:00 pm
Post Time 2:15 p.m.
Race 1 - 1 mile, Purse $17,000, Claiming $16,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
1 Datwatdaddydo - Scott Stevens is the older brother of HOF Gary Stevens; been riding some live stock and doing well at Los Alamitos.
2 Democracy Rules - Looks like lone early speed to me, the best bet in horse racing; still she has a tendency to collapse badly late.
Long Shot - 3 Vegas Bound
Race 2 - 6 furlongs, Purse $14,000, Claiming $8,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
5 Forty Straight - If you have followed me over the years, you know I like cutback horses; this one could definitely be effective.
6 Rich in Tradition - Dead late closer will hope for some early pace to chase; has a tendency to finish second and third more often.
Long Shot - 4 Gianis
Race 3 - 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $50,000, Maiden special weights, Fillies, 2-year-olds
2 Mint Julep Taffy - Only starter with experience is facing four FTS; her two races under her belt can be a major tactical edge.
4 One True Kiss - Leap of faith that Peter Miller has this one cranked up to win first time out; rarely see Mike Smith ride here.
Long Shot - 1 Land Over Sea
Race 4 - 5 furlongs, Purse $17,000, Maiden claiming $20,000, 3-year-olds and up
7 Coach John - Has shown steady improvement for underrated trainer Blake Heap; might be his time in a slowpoke field. 8 Relative Time - Taking a huge class drop for trainer Cliff Sise to face much easier; switch to aggressive rider in Tyler Baze.
Long Shot - 4 Lucky Logan
Race 5 - 1 mile, Purse $19,000, Starter allowance $12,500, 3-year-olds and up
2 Vegas Street - Big switch from bugboy to the experienced Martin Garcia; if this guy is ready to roll, Garcia will get him there.
6 Ransom Canyon - Trainer Doug O’Neill having a blistering hot meet. every horse he has sent out is live, and so is this one.
Long Shot - 4 Jonny’s Choice
Race 6 - 6 furlongs, Purse $19,000, Maiden claiming $30,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
8 Jackie K - Sliding down the maiden claiming ladder to this new career low; reach a point of its now or never to graduate.
9 Lana Caprina - Has some good early speed to use on the stretch out; David Flores is having a slow time regaining a foothold in SoCal.
Long Shot - 4 My Moment Too
Race 7 - 1 mile, Purse $46,000, Optional claiming $40,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
5 Savannah Sky - Rafael Bejarano has been very picky about his mounts at Los Alamitos; if he shows up, that’ means he means business.
4 Dissension - Claimed by Philip D’Amato who doesn’t take many; I would expect immediate improvement from this top barn.
Long Shot - 3 Fantastic Mizz
Race 8 - 5 1/2 furlongs, $75,000 Summer Juvenile Championship, 2-year-olds
5 Ralis - Doug O’Neill holds a pair of aces in this sprint stakes; Mario Gutierrez had his choice and landed here.
1 Mrazek - Corey Nakatani picks up the mount for Doug O’Neill; do not expect the uncoupled stablemates to duel for the early lead.
Long Shot -2 Swipe
Race 9 - 5 furlongs, Purse $17,000, Maiden claiming $20,000, 3-year-olds and up
1 Artic Warrior - Should be able to get a cozy rail trip in this abbreviated sprint; last race of this two week Los Alamitos meet.
7 Dee for Dave - Showed a lot of improvement in his second career start; last race before Del Mar opens on Thursday, see you then.
Long Shot - 4 Masters Circle
Best Bet - 5 Savannah Sky (race 7)
Los Alamitos Saturday - Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 18/5/$31.80; Long Shots, 9/3/$40.00; Best Bet, 1/1/$2.40
Los Alamitos Totals - 112/33/$206.40; Long Shots, 56/8/$93.60; Best Bets, 7/5/$14.60
SIMULCAST PLAY OF THE DAY - #6 So Noted (8/5) in race 1 at Belmont Park. For scoring purposes, we’ll make a hypothetical $2 win, place and show bet, $6 total.
