Horse Racing: Today at Santa Anita, Feb. 28

Post Time 12:30 p.m.

Race 1 - 1 1/8th miles (turf, rail at 15 feet), Purse $56,000, 3-year-olds

3 Blue Law - Figures to be a very short chalk off his last race; Kent Desormeaux and Bob Hess win at a very high strike rate.

1 Rockin Robin - His race two back when ridden by Tyler Baze was a good second; key will be if Baze can coax that effort out today.

Long Shot - 10 Milton

Race 2 - 6 furlongs, Purse $20,000, Claiming $16,000, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up

7 Patriotic Brother - Gets class relief after being in arrears all race in last; she won two races ago wearing this same price tag.

2 Pay the Debt - Ran a huge second last time out at a generous 19/1 odds; won’t be that price today, but she could repeat the effort.

Long Shot - 6 Lust for Life

Race 3 - 6 furlongs, Purse $32,000, Claiming $25,000, 4-year-olds and up

4 Nextdoorneighbor - Has won 4-of-5 starts and keeps the streak since claimed by Peter Miller; could see a perfect stalking trip again.

1 Sacred Ovation - Chance to be lone early speed, the best bet in horse racing; however, he has a penchant for spitting the bit late.

Long Shot - 5 Oligarch

Race 4 - 6 1/2 furlongs (turf, rail at 15 feet), Purse $58,000, Optional claiming $40,000, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up

8 Smoove It - The race she needs to repeat is the victory two races back; she was in position last time but proved to be camera shy.

11 Anniversary Kitty - The parking lot post is good down the hillside turf course; will expect a sitting trip and a blast home late.

Long Shot - 1 Brescat

Race 5 - 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $60,000, Optional claiming $62,500, 4-year-olds and up

6 Masochistic - Key question is his trainer A.C.Avila was just suspended for 60 days; the suspension was because of this colt.

3 Reno Rebel - Peter Miller almost always improves a claimed horse; this one stepped up big last out despite a heart breaking defeat.

Long Shot - 1 Airfoil

Race 6 - 1 1/16th miles, Purse $56,000, Maiden special weights, 3-year-olds

2 The Man - This could be the Bob Baffert invitational, except it’s only an MSW; he holds all the cards with a 3-headed uncoupled entry.

1 Nob Hill - This colt could see a good trip if too many vie for the early lead; was not flattered when Cyrus Alexander lost next out.

Long Shot - 4 Wabel

Race 7 - 1 mile, Purse $58,000, Optional claiming $80,000, Fillies, 3-year-olds

8 Wild At Heart - Good looking filly in the hands of Richard Mandella; she has tactical speed where 2-turns should pose no problem.

7 Luminance - Highly regarded Bob Baffert filly has been away since July at Del Mar; was brilliant in one race, now has some rust.

Long Shot - 4 Miss Mandate

Race 8 - 1 1/16th miles, $100,000 Santa Ysabel, Fillies, 3-year-olds

6 Light the City - She gave Callback everything she could handle in the Las Virgenes; Jerry Hollendorfer and Bob Baffert dominate this.

3 Enchanting Lady - She has a long worktab but finally makes it back to the races; Bob Baffert gem has been away since last June.

Long Shot - 9 Glory

Race 9 - 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $19,000, Maiden claiming $20,000, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up

4 Sweet Sense - Been away since July when facing much better at Del Mar; has high early speed in a potential no passing zone field.

11 Prevaricator - She exited the same race as my top pick Sweet Sense; both return for a reduced price tag facing nobodies.

Long Shot - 6 Warrensdollarsigns

Best Bet - 8 Wild At Heart (race 7)

Santa Anita Friday - Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 14/2/$12.20; Long Shots, 6/2/$32.40; Best Bet, 1/0/$0

Santa Anita Totals - 620/164/$1,040.80; Long Shots, 312/45/$450.20; Best Bets, 38/15/$67.20

SIMULCAST PLAY OF THE DAY - #8 Consumer Credit (9/5) in race 5 at Gulfstream Park. For scoring purposes, we’ll make a hypothetical $2 win, place and show bet, $6 total. On Friday, Megyns Gold was scratched at Oaklawn Park. Stats - 31/22/$142.50; Follow him on Twitter: @richeng4propick
