Horse Racing: Today at Santa Anita, February 6
February 5, 2015 - 9:17 pm
Post Time 1 p.m.
Race 1 - 7 furlongs, Purse $19,000, Maiden claiming $20,000, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up
4 Katerrific - Sliding down the maiden claiming ladder to this bottom rung; blinkers off, like that Rafael Bejarano remains loyal.
8 L X Sunrise - Been a veteran at this bottom level with 7 seconds; she is a nibbler that can definitely run into your vertical exotic.
Long Shot - 6 Take It Slowly
Race 2 - 1 mile, Purse $26,000, Claiming $20,000, 4-year-olds and up
6 The Mad Hungarian - Ran a clunker in last as a 3/2 favorite; key will be if he can repeat the fast race from 2 or 3 races ago.
8 Valentine Boy - His race two back, if repeated tonight, is fast enough to challenge the chalk; bugboy is showing some improvement.
Long Shot - 7 Bluegrass Reward
Race 3 - 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $56,000, Maiden special weights, Cal-breds, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up
9 Discatsonthesquare - Been away since June, but showed high early speed in both career starts; Aaron Gryder does not get enough work.
10 Jean Edward - Interesting barn switch to Mike Machowsky; closed well two races back, showed good early speed last time.
Long Shot - 2 Tale of Papa Nick
Race 4 - 6 1/2 furlongs (turf, rail at 30 feet), Purse $35,000, 4-year-olds and up
2 Jomelo - Like the cutback in distance from route to sprint; has no early speed so will sit in arrears and make one big brush.
4 Circa’sgoldengear - Been away since June, has good tactical speed and positive experience down the hill; watch the tote for clues.
Long Shot - 7 Fighting On
Race 5 - 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $17,000, Claiming $8,000, 4-year-olds and up
7 Senor Rain - Consistent sort has a lot of back class for this bottom rung; was claimed by Victor Garcia last time out.
6 Nextdoorneighbor - Has an excellent resume at Santa Anita; tactical speed to sit a nice trip, just claimed by Peter Miller.
Long Shot - 9 Relentless Heat
Race 6 - 1 mile, Purse $60,000, Optional claiming $62,500, 4-year-olds and up
9 Midnight Hawk - Bob Baffert goes back to square one with this top 3-year-old; really needs to run a good race in the worst way.
2 Storm Fighter - Despite not having raced since July, Bruce Headley rarely sends out a short horse; top Euro rider Kieran Fallon up.
Long Shot - 8 Cool Samurai
Race 7 - 1 1/4 miles (turf, rail at 30 feet), Purse $58,000, Optional claiming $40,000, 4-year-olds and up
1 Christopher Street - Tiny edge in the hardest race on the card; will be sitting far back and make one late brush.
10 Decisive Edge - I don’t think Alex Solis has won since his historic 5,000 victory; this is a live mount, legit chance for 5,001.
Long Shot - 9 Street Maven
Race 8 - 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $23,000, Maiden claiming $30,000, 3-year-olds
10 Sky Heart - Last race was a big effort for this bottom level class; If he can improve one step, he could crush these.
12 Pure Thunder - Sliding down the maiden claiming ladder to this bottom rung; expect a wake up call facing a very slow group.
Long Shot - 11 Muzzled Mousse
Best Bet - 10 Sky Heart (race 8)
Santa Anita Thursday - Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 15/1/$3.40; Long Shots, 8/0/$0; Best Bet, 1/0/$0
