Horse Racing: Today at Santa Anita, January 9
January 8, 2015 - 9:07 pm
Post Time 1 p.m.
Race 1 - 1 mile, Purse $56,000, Maiden special weights, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up
2 Interject - Ran well in her U.S. debut for Neil Drysdale; very dangerous if she can improve even one step forward.
5 Live for Now - Key for me is she has run second 3-of-4 starts over Santa Anita dirt; a couple of those were close calls too.
Long Shot - 1 Lady Bugatti
Race 2 - 1 mile, Purse $19,000, Maiden claiming $20,000, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up
2 Ann’s Gold - Has run second three times which is big for this slow of a group; has enough tactical speed to sit a mid-pack trip.
1 Council Talk - Sprinter stretching out may try to pop the gate and go; would want the lead in a potential no passing zone race.
Long Shot - 7 Katy’s Plum
Race 3 - 1 mile (turf, rail at 30 feet), Purse $56,000, Maiden special weights, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up
6 Tizmiss - Been away since March, but ran well last on grass; with the turf rail out 30 feet, might want to show high cheese early.
2 See Through - Favored in first leg of the Pick 6, $45K carryover; been 4-for-4 in the money on sod, due to break thru soon.
Long Shot - 3 Dakota Kid
Race 4 - 1 1/16th miles, Purse $23,000, Claiming $16,000, 4-year-olds and up
1 Street Serenade - Leap of faith that he can repeat the winning race from two back; popped the gate and never gave up the lead.
4 Friendly Banter - Tepid chalk in a very difficult heat in the Pick 5 and Pick 6; will sit a trip and coming firing in the lane.
Long Shot - 3 Perfect Set
Race 5 - 6 1/2 furlongs (turf, rail at 30 feet), Purse $56,000, maiden special weights, Fillies, 3-year-olds
5 Heartofthetemple - Wesley Ward wins races wherever he goes; should get value here with unheraled Joe Steiner in the saddle
11 Redheads Rule - Should draw in off the also eligible list; is related to Little Mike who exceled over the greensward.
Long Shot - 7 She’s a Big Winner
Race 6 - 1 mile, Purse $30,000, Optional claiming $32,000, 3-year-olds
2 Slapshot Man - Leap of faith that the last race is a portend of things to come; not sure why he didn’t run straight in the stretch.
3 Two Six Wins - Taking a huge class drop to face much cheaper; Michael Pender adding blinkers on hoping to revive his talents.
Long Shot - 5 Dynamite Ride
Race 7 - 6 1/2 furlongs (turf, rail at 30 feet), Purse $58,000, Optional claiming $40,000, 4-year-olds and up
3 Skylander - Wesley Ward has two live horses on the card today; could play a major role in today’s Pick 6 carryover.
5 U S Citizen - If the pace is too quick, this one will be flying late; turf rail is out 30 feet and that does aid the early speed.
Long Shot - 1 Conscience
Race 8 - 6 furlongs, Purse $31,000, Maiden claiming $50,000, Cal-breds, Fillies, 3-year-olds
5 Missionelle - Taking the biggest class drop in racing from MSW to maiden claiming; chance to improve with only one career start.
4 Really a Princess - Logical chalk has teased us by leading into the deep stretch; someday will find a no passing zone field.
Long Shot - 3 Kiss At Midnight
Best Bet - 3 Skylander (race 7)
Santa Anita Thursday - Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 16/5/$30.40; Long Shots, 8/1/$11.00; Best Bet, 1/0/$0
Santa Anita Totals - 152/39/$260.00; Long Shots, 77/7/$70.00; Best Bets, 9/4/$19.00
SIMULCAST PLAY OF THE DAY - #2 Hammers Terror (7/2) in race 9 at Gulfstream Park. For scoring purposes, we’ll make a hypothetical $2 win, place and show bet, $6 total. On Thursday, More Hundred Acre was scratched at Aqueduct. Stats - 5/5/$23.00;
