Horse Racing: Today at Santa Anita, June 21

Post Time 12:30 p.m.

Race 1 - 1 mile (turf), $40,000 Penns Haven Handicap, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

1 Chokecherymary - Became eligible for this condition running for a $25K price tag in last two starts; saves all the ground inside.

2 Jade With Envy - Has sparred on near equal terms with the favorite last two starts; both are evenly weighted today at 120 pounds.

Long Shot - 3 Toppers Sunshine

Race 2 - 6 furlongs, Purse $32,000, 3-year-olds and up

1 Califo Cat - Tiny edge in a very difficult heat; NoCal shipper has excelled over the Tapeta synthetic surface, now tries real dirt.

2 Maximus - Exploded for a big win in last at juicy 5/1 odds; facing much tougher here and is clearly no cinch in a contentious field.

Long Shot - 5 The Cleaners

Race 3 - 1 1/4 miles (turf), Purse $58,000, Optional claiming $40,000, 3-year-olds and up

5 Wanstead Gardens - Marathon distance is really a gallopers race; key is to relax early, save ground and grind fast in the lane.

4 Son of War - After breaking his MSW at Del Mar last fall, has been knocking at the door but can’t get in; tactical speed to sit a trip.

Long Shot - 7 Crucero

Race 4 - 5 1/2 furlongs, $125,000 Santa Anita Juvenile, 2-year-olds

3 Dubdubwatson - Doubt if you’ll see the 2016 Kentucky Derby winner in this field; sprinter types can still earn a lot of money.

1 Mrazek - Was razor sharp in MSW debut win for Doug O’Neill; watch the tote board for additional clues, an odd horse may turn up hot.

Long Shot - 4 Found Money

Race 5 - 1 mile (turf), Purse $56,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

5 Scandal - Won but was DQ’d in a controversial call by the stewards; key vote is Richard Mandella sticks with HOF rider Mike Smith.

4 Jaycee’s Humor - Was a bit rank last time for Rafael Bejarano; he prefers to stalk the pace but this filly had other ideas.

Long Shot - 2 Arewehavingfunyet

Race 6 - 1 1/16th miles, Purse $19,000, Claiming $10,000, 3-year-olds and up

6 My Jealous - If you can draw a line thru his last turf start, his resume looks much better; has back class and these are his friends.

4 When We Met - Tepid chalk has won two straight in gritty hard fought battles; cheap claimers have a way of losing their form fast.

Long Shot - 7 Bluegrass Reward

Race 7 - 1 mile (turf), Purse $56,000, Maiden special weights, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

3 Sweet - Flavien Prat and Richard Mandella have had a good run this meet; Prat loves to save ground, a good rule in route turf racing.

9 Emyvale Court - Turned in a stinker as the chalk in last; Tom Proctor stretches her out around 2-turns, stays with HOF Gary Stevens.

Long Shot - 4 Foolish Ways

Race 8 - 5 1/2 furlongs, $125,000 Landaluce, Fillies, 2-year-olds

2 Miss Gridley - Won well in last after Peter Miller took the blinkers off; good time to win black type as most are pure sprinters.

7 Sambamzajammin - John Brocklebank has been a nice story with his well meant 2-year-olds; heard that every horse of his is for sale.

Long Shot - 5 Alien Giant

Race 9 - 1 1/16th miles, Purse $56,000, Maiden special weights, 3-year-olds and up

7 Rosicky - His last race, if repeated, would tower over these in the lane; Rafael Bejarano has been staying more often for the finale.

8 Volume - It’s that tandem of Richard Mandella and Flavien Prat again; has shown talent and is capable of one more step improvement. Long Shot -5 Nob Hill Best Bet - 7 Rosicky (race 9)

Santa Anita Saturday - Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 17/4/$18.60; Long Shots, 9/3/$29.80; Best Bet, 1/1/$2.80
