Horse Racing: Today at Santa Anita, June 25
June 24, 2015 - 9:09 pm
Post Time 1 p.m.
Race 1 - 7 furlongs, Purse $30,000, Starter handicap $12,500, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
1 Lust for Life - Tiny edge in a very difficult opener; key vote is from Rafael Bejarano, claimed off a win by George Papprodromou.
6 Salsita - Became eligible for this condition from earlier races; appears to have improved nicely for trainer Ricky Agarie.
Long Shot - 4 No Tricks for Jack
Race 2 - 1 1/16th miles, Purse $20,000, Claiming $16,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
6 Articulate - Claimed by Ron Ellis who does not take many; his batting average is very good first out off the claim.
7 Wild Caroline - Gary Stute claimed this from Ron Ellis off a career topper victory; the key will be if she can repeat the effort.
Long Shot - 3 Best in Class
Race 3 - 1 mile (turf, rail at 24 feet), Purse $56,000, Maiden special weights, Fillies, 2-year-olds
6 Gomo - Sure to be overbet in a race full of slow unknowns; none of these has gone 2-turns or tried the grass surface before.
3 Rich Girl - Has an interesting pedigree to both go 2-turns and on the grass also; watch the tote board for additional clues.
Long Shot - 1 Do the Dance
Race 4 - 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $19,000, Maiden claiming $20,000, 3-year-olds and up
8 Soul Crusher - Many draw a line thru a horse like this because he’s had many chances; eventually they find a field slow enough to beat.
3 Masters Circle - Ran OK in last first time for a price tag; he has a faster race two back to match albeit it was run over the turf course.
Long Shot - 10 Noble Hawk
Race 5 - 5 furlongs, Purse $56,000, Maiden special weights, Cal-breds, Fillies, 2-year-olds
4 She Sings Along - Of the few with starts, this one by far showed a lot of ability; should be tough if she improves even one step.
8 Obey - Has bullet works which are enough for me to place her; you’ll have a big edge over me in seeing the tote action on all the FTS.
Long Shot - 1 Miles Sister
Race 6 - 1 mile (turf, rail at 24 feet), Purse $58,000, Optional claiming $40,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
6 Artistic Charm - Beaten favorite lost an excruciating photo in last; Rafael Bejarano had choices, opted to ride for Simon Callaghan.
5 Zanbo - Loses Rafael Bejarano to the chalk, Victor Espinoza gets legged up tonight; claimed by Peter Miller off a sharp win in last.
Long Shot - 9 Chaulk O Lattey
Race 7 - 1 mile, Purse $60,000, Optional claiming $62,500, 3-year-olds and up
6 Anxious Times - I like a horse that won while running a slower Beyer speed figure; may finally be coming around for Richard Mandella.
4 Cross the Line - Jerry Hollendorfer has an uncoupled entry, so caveat emptor; the other horse is Desert Dynamo.
Long Shot - 2 Govenor Charlie
Race 8 - 6 1/2 furlongs (turf, rail at 24 feet), Purse $31,000, Maiden claiming $50,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
8 Oui Bear - Ran well in last in a surface switch sprint; tried turf two races ago and didn’t make much impact in a tougher MSW field.
13 Ya Ya Girl - Big shot to win but must draw in off the also eligible list; has Rafael Bejarano listed and a parking lot post to boot.
Long Shot - 4 Elimination Round
Best Bet - 6 Artistic Charm (race 6)
Santa Anita Sunday - Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 17/3/$14.20; Long Shots, 8/2/$19.20; Best Bet, 1/0/$0
Santa Anita Meet Totals - 516/139/$763.80; Long Shots, 258/39/$446.60; Best Bets, 31/16/$63.80
SIMULCAST PLAY OF THE DAY - #8 Pep the Champ (7/2) in race 5 at Belmont Park. For scoring purposes, we’ll make a hypothetical $2 win, place and show bet, $6 total. On Sunday, Aggrandizement ran out at Belmont Park. Stats - 85/58/$419.70; Follow him on Twitter: @richeng4propick
