Horse Racing: Today at Santa Anita, March 12

Post Time 1 p.m.

Race 1 - 1 1/16th miles, Purse $19,000, Claiming $10,000, 4-year-olds and up

1 Dress Code - Ran better on the stretch out where the early pace is a lot softer; rail draw to save all of the ground throughout.

6 Titled Nobility - Rafael Bejarano is winning at a 25 percent clip; there’s a good reason why and we could see in today’s opener.

Long Shot - 4 When We Met

Race 2 - 6 furlongs, Purse $27,000, Maiden claiming $40,000, Fillies, 3-year-olds

2 Prettypreciousheir - Taking the biggest class drop in racing from MSW to maiden claiming; need not be much to handle this group.

6 Queen Cactus - Ran well in her career opener; kind of surprised whe was not protected, in fact, Peter Eurton drops her further in class.

Long Shot - 5 Twinkle Toes

Race 3 - 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $31,000, Maiden claiming $50,000, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up

4 Keezheekoni - Taking the biggest class drop in racing from MSW to maiden claiming; chance for Peter Eurton to win a daily double.

3 Alpha Doll - Been away close to 2 full years; would be easy to bypass except the meet leading rider Rafael Bejarano takes the call.

Long Shot - 5 Aparri

Race 4 - 1 mile, Purse $23,000, Claiming $16,000, 4-year-olds and up

4 My Jealous - Takes an aggressive class rise off a blowout win; Iggy Puglisi is a favorite jockey of mine to play, he always tries hard.

3 Broadway Nika - Tepid chalk in another wide open affair; claimed from A. C. Avila off a big win, now Avila has been suspended.

Long Shot - 6 Bluegrass Reward

Race 5 - 1 mile (turf, rail at 24 feet), Purse $56,000, Maiden special weights, 4-year-olds and up

4 Wicked Finance - Took a short break since a good second 2 months ago; dead late closer has not one drop of early speed.

3 To the Bar - Showed good speed last time in first turf and route effort; will like the turf rail being out 24 feet tonight.

Long Shot - 6 Native Ride

Race 6 - 7 furlongs, Purse $58,000, Allowance, Cal-breds, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

6 Zuzu’s Petals - Clearly not a horse to single in your horizontal wager; 7-for-7 in the money, but has become a well bet nibbler.

7 Seeking Shamrocks - Always wondered why Aaron Gryder has not been getting more work; how many tracks has he been a top 10 rider at?

Long Shot - 8 Yana

Race 7 - 1 mile (turf, rail at 24 feet), Purse $60,000, Optional claiming $62,500, 4-year-olds and up

4 Talco - May have been best last time out off a steep class drop; after 4 graded stakes, he should be eating this kind for lunch.

6 Boozer - Talented Cal-bred steps back into open company again; he loves Santa Anita and his speed will be flattered with the rail out.

Long Shot - 7 Jules Journey

Race 8 - 1 mile, Purse $19,000, Maiden claiming $20,000, 4-year-olds and up

5 Starzilla - Has been a factor in his last two starts at this bottom class level; may find himself in a no passing zone field.

9 Majestic Charlie - Tactical speed to sit a nice trip; could easily see him challenge Starzilla turning for home and slugging it out.

Long Shot - 10 Weekendwithbernie

Best Bet - 4 Talco (race 7)

Santa Anita Sunday - Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 16/3/$26.20; Long Shots, 8/3/$31.80; Best Bet, 1/0/$0

Santa Anita Totals - 725/190/$1,200.80; Long Shots, 365/54/$540.40; Best Bets, 44/16/$69.80

SIMULCAST PLAY OF THE DAY - #7 Hellenistic (9/2) in race 6 at Gulfstream Park. For scoring purposes, we’ll make a hypothetical $2 win, place and show bet, $6 total. On Sunday, Street Strategy won at Oaklawn Park paying $3.80 to win, $2.80 to show and $2.40 to show. Stats - 35/26/$165.70; Follow him on Twitter: @richeng4propick
