Today at Santa Anita
By Richard Eng
Post Time 1 p.m.
Race 1 - 7 furlongs, Purse $32,000, Claiming $32,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
2 Don'tgetmadalexis - Big class relief from 3 stakes for this $32K price tag; Dallas Keen has won 2 races so far this meet.
4 Inner Groove - She ran for a $32K price tag two races ago and won; reunited with Rafael Bejarano for this.
Long Shot - 3 Carrie Rose
Race 2 - 6 furlongs, Purse $38,000, Maiden claiming $100,000, 2-year-olds
4 Sacred Option - Was flattered in last when Merit Man won next time out; this $100K price tag really isn't a drop from MSW.
3 El Jefe Grande - Ran evenly in career debut over at Fairplex; one step improvement gives him a puncher's chance.
Long Shot - 5 Denzel
Race 3 - 1 mile (turf, rail at 15 feet), Purse $40,000, Fillies, 3-year-olds
1 Candy Trophy - Check for program changes in case we're off the turf today; her non turf races were pretty pedestrian.
7 Mia Isabel - Claimed by Doug O'Neill, sometimes a good thing; like that Garrett Gomez opted to stay loyal to the cause.
Long Shot - 6 Love Tale
Race 4 - 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $19,000, Maiden claiming $20,000, 3-year-olds and up
4 Turn On the Brites - Flattered when Bev N Bud won next time out; class dropper from a barn that does not win many.
8 Chicsdigtheshark - Claimed two back by Bill Spawr; showed improvement in last in a pop and stop speed effort.
Long Shot - 2 Green Team
Race 5 - 6 1/2 furlongs (turf, rail at 15 feet), Purse $30,000, Claiming $25,000, 3-year-olds and up
9 Sky Cape - Careful, they like to surface switch races off the hillside if you spit on the grass; ran twice on dry dirt.
8 Cherokee Heaven - Solid chance if they stay on turf, not so sure if they run on the organic dirt; watch the tote board.
Long Shot - 3 Drift King
Race 6 - 6 furlongs, Purse $35,000, Claiming $40,000, 3-year-olds
8 Sir Allison - Bob Baffert is busy on this card, but it's mostly his culls; speedball is fresh, maybe fit, making him dangerous.
1 Plenny of Henny - First time gelding, the ultimate equipment change; sliding down the claiming ladder for this try.
Long Shot - 5 Yes It's Snowing
Race 7 - 1 1/8th miles (turf, rail at 15 feet), Purse $53,000, Optional claiming $62,500, 3-year-olds and up
2 Causeithertz - Son of Megahertz has done some running since Bob Baffert took over the training; has yet to race on dirt, wet or dry.
4 Oligarch - Calder invaders have a history of running well in SoCal; speedball will go as fast and as far as he can.
Long Shot - 8 Massone
Race 8 - 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $19,000, Maiden claiming $20,000, 3-year-olds and up
6 Generations - Taking the biggest class drop in racing from MSW to maiden claiming; looks like a man among men in here.
2 Catcanscat - Ran two good seconds at Fairplex for Joy Scott; need not be much to cash a paycheck with these.
Long Shot - 8 Baja Cal
Best Bet - 6 Generations (race 8)
Santa Anita Thursday - Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 16/5/$28.20; Long Shots, 8/1/$9.20; Best Bet, 1/0/$0
Santa Anita Totals - 163/34/$223.20; Long Shots, 83/14/$135.20; Best Bets, 9/2/$6.40
SIMULCAST PLAY OF THE DAY - #3 Beau Choix (5/1) in race 7 at Belmont Park. For scoring purposes, we'll make a hypothetical $2 win, place and show bet, $6 total. On Thursday, Shrill ran out at Keeneland. Stats - 150/106/$928.60; Follow him on Twitter: @richeng4propick
