Kansas City Chiefs slight favorite over 49ers in Super Bowl LIV

Updated January 19, 2020 - 8:46 pm

Oddsmakers expect a close, high-scoring Super Bowl.

Las Vegas sportsbooks have installed the Kansas City Chiefs as 1-point favorites over the San Francisco 49ers for this year’s NFL championship game, set for Feb. 2 in Miami Gardens, Florida.

The total (the projected points scored by both teams) climbed to 53½ on Sunday night after opening at 51½.

Kansas City and San Francisco earned decisive home victories Sunday to advance to the Super Bowl, each covering the spread as favorites of 7 to 7½ points.

The Chiefs rallied from an early 17-7 deficit to defeat the Tennessee Titans 35-24 in the AFC championship game. It will be Kansas City’s first Super Bowl appearance since it won Super Bowl IV in January 1970.

The 49ers jumped on the Green Bay Packers and rolled to a 37-20 victory in the NFC championship game. San Francisco will try to join the New England Patriots and the Pittsburgh Steelers as the only franchises to win the Super Bowl six times. The 49ers have not won the championship since the 1994 season.
