Leroy’s fined for unauthorized Kentucky Derby wagering

The Nevada Gaming Commission on Thursday unanimously approved a $25,825 fine against the former Leroy's Race and Sports Place for accepting unauthorized bet on the 2012 Kentucky Derby at four locations statewide.

The state Gaming Control Board had also accused Leroy's of operating kiosks with a software glitch enabling players to double their deposits. The Control Board on Nov. 29 filed the two-count complaint that had to be considered by the five-member commission.

The case involved some $30,000 in wagers accepted at Colorado Belle in Laughlin, Hooters Hotel in Las Vegas, Poker Palace in North Las Vegas and Stockmen's in Elko, locations licensed for sports wagers but not horse racing.

William Hill Plc acquired Leroy's parent company, American Wagering Inc., in June for $18 million. The company has developed procedures to ensure only licensed locations accept horseracing bets, the settlement said.
