TODAY AT DEL MAR by Richard Eng
Post Time 2 p.m.
Race 1 - 6 furlongs, Purse $38,000, Claiming $20,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
1 J and S Express - Taking a big class drop to face easier; speed and the rail have worked great on the main track this meet.
6 Small Moves - Sliding down the claiming ladder to her lowest career level; her race two back is fast enough to upset these.
Long Shot - 5 Spring Gal
Race 2 - 5 furlongs, Purse $77,000, Optional claiming $40,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
7 Rovenna - Class relief from the grade 3 Sorrento for this; this is clearly meant to be a confidence booster.
2 Popalicious - Ship and win horse starts for Steve Miyadi; suspect she fits this class or they wouldn’t of wasted time and money.
Long Shot - 8 Peppy Bolly
Race 3 - 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $43,000, Optional claiming $50,000, Fillies, 2-year-olds
4 Champion Risk - Clever claim by Tim Yakteen from a winning maiden claiming victory; she runs protected and may turn into something.
2 Robo Girl - Class relief from two stakes for this simple O/C $50K; she’s been trampled over two times, looks for a softer spot.
Long Shot - 1 Wild Heart Run
Race 4 - 1 mile, Purse $20,000, Claiming $8,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
10 Cayanna - Has a difficult parking lot post at a mile; mare has tactical speed so Rafael Bejarano should find a spot early on.
2 Tribal Peace - Second start off the claim by Craig Dollase; he tried blinkers on in last and she ran awful, blinkers off tonight.
Long Shot - 6 Magic Number
Race 5 - 1 mile, Purse $75,000, Maiden special weights, Cal-breds, 3-year-olds and up
9 Missing Groom - Acted like he hated the turf last time in a pop and stop effort; returns to the main track where he ran his best.
6 Golden Guy - NoCal shipper has run twice in the money over synthetics; not sure if he’s fast enough, but we’ll find out today.
Long Shot - 3 Prospector Alley
Race 6 - 6 furlongs, Purse $77,000, Optional claiming $20,000, Cal-breds, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
10 My Monet - Anyone who has followed me over the years, knows I like cut back horses; this one ran a mile on grass last time out.
5 Moving Desert - Another cut back horse, albeit last November at Santa Anita; gets big class relief from three stakes for this.
Long Shot - 7 Little But Lucky
Race 7 - 6 1/2 furlongs, $200,000 Sorrento, Fillies, 2-year-olds
7 Caval - First winner for BC Classic champ Blame; she should get much better as the races get longer due to her terrific pedigree.
3 Conquest Eclipse - One of the better 2-Year-olds in the Mark Casse barn; won as a big favorite at Churchill Downs.
Long Shot - 5 Heart of Paradise
Race 8 - 6 furlongs, Purse $25,000, Maiden claiming $20,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
9 Full of Spice - Did everything but win last time in a much improved effort; facing a really pedestrian group.
5 Swiss Perfection - If she duels with the chalk, it could open the race for a price closer; watch the jockey tactics closely.
Long Shot - 3 Spirit of Ten
Best Bet - 7 Caval (race 7)
Del Mar Sunday - Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 20/7/$50.20; Long Shots, 9/1/$9.40; Best Bet, 1/0/$0
Del Mar Totals - 167/34/$258.40; Long Shots, 82/5/$53.80; Best Bets, 8/1/$6.60
SIMULCAST PLAY OF THE DAY - #7 Yankee Dime (5/1) in race 2 at Saratoga. For scoring purposes, we’ll make a hypothetical $2 win, place and show bet, $6 total. On Sunday, Eurokay by Me ran out at Saratoga. Stats - 115/69/$660.00; Follow him on Twitter: @richeng4propick
