Former World Boxing Council heavyweight champion Bermane Stiverne was released from University Medical Center Monday after being admitted late Saturday for severe dehydration following his 12-round unanimous decision loss to Deontay Wilder at the MGM Grand Garden.
Stiverne, 36, who is a resident of Las Vegas, told doctors during his post-fight physical examination that he wasn’t feeling well. He was taken to UMC and given fluids and stayed over Sunday night before his release Monday morning. Stiverne (24-2-1, 21 knockouts) had won the WBC title last May 10 and was making the first defense of the belt when he lost to Wilder (33-0, 32 KOs) Saturday.
