Cruz’s triple is difference for Del Sol

Randy Cruz smashed a two-run triple in the bottom of the sixth inning to propel Del Sol to a 7-4 victory over visiting Mountain View (Utah) in the Bishop Gorman/Calvary Chapel Easter Bash on Friday.

Cruz's triple broke a 4-4 tie, and he later scored on a passed ball for the final margin.

Chris Hampton supplied two hits and two RBIs for the Dragons, and Brian Madrid had two hits and an RBI.

Reliever Matt Lemos threw three hitless innings to pick up the victory.

Hillcrest (Utah) 17, Rancho 13 -- At Hadland Park, the Huskies scored five runs in the top of the ninth to defeat the Rams.

James Crockett had four RBIs and went 3-for-5, including a double and triple, to lead Rancho.

Both teams had 15 hits.

Rancho 23, Rio Vista (Calif.) 7 -- At Hadland Park, Seth Turner and Justin Neubauer each went 3-for-5 with four RBIs to lead Rancho's rout of Rio Vista.

Rancho led 9-7 after six innings but scored 14 runs in the top of the seventh to make it a runaway.

Crockett and Lance Eliason each went 3-for-5 with two RBIs as Rancho compiled 19 hits.

Cimarron-Memorial 4, Alta (Utah) 3 -- At Cimarron, Travis Feiner's two-run homer highlighted a four-run third inning by the Spartans.

Taylor Doyle and Dyllon Neurnberg each added an RBI single in the third for Cimarron.

Feiner finished 2-for-4, also stroking a double.

Calvary Chapel 6, Hillcrest (Utah) 4 -- At Liberty, the Lions broke a 4-4 tie with two runs in the fourth inning and defeated the Huskies.

Hunter Rodriguez squeezed home the go-ahead run. The Lions trailed 4-1 before tying the game with three runs in the third.

Cory Welch was 2-for-3 with a double, two runs and two RBIs, and teammate Josh Gomez went 2-for-2 with a double and a run.

Bishop Gorman 5, Gulliver Prep (Fla.) 4 -- At Hadland Park, Taylor Cole went 2-for-2 with an RBI as the Gaels edged the Raiders.

Gorman scored four runs in the fifth inning to take a 5-2 lead. Gulliver Prep rallied for two in the sixth but couldn't catch the Gaels.

Donn Roach got the victory, allowing four runs on six hits in six innings. He struck out four.

Chaparral 10, West Jordan (Utah) 8 -- At Del Sol, Greg Smallwood was 3-for-3 to lead the Cowboys over the Jaguars.

Phil Lial struck out eight and got the win for Chaparral.

Chaparral 10, Cholla Magnet (Ariz.) 9 -- At Eldorado, Smallwood went 3-for-4 with an RBI and Chris Juneman hit a home run and pitched the victory as the Cowboys defeated Cholla Magnet.

West Jordan (Utah) 10, Eldorado 1 -- At Eldorado, the Jaguars scored 10 runs on seven hits to turn back the Sundevils.

Eldorado's Corey Keplinger went 2-for-3 and Manuel Estrada added a double.
