Detwiler’s bat powers Cougars

Gary Detwiler was 3-for-3 with a home run, double and two RBIs to lead Coronado to a 3-2 victory over Narbonne (Calif.) in the Blazer Spring Bash at Sierra Vista on Monday.

Detwiler's solo homer in the third inning tied the game at 2. The Cougars took the lead in the fifth when Carmen Romano singled home Jake Wagner.

Javy Perez went the distance to get the win. He allowed one earned run on three hits with five strikeouts.

Sierra Vista 3, West Ranch (Calif.) 2 -- At Sierra Vista, Lance Ray hit a solo home run in the first inning and the Lions held on to win.

Thomas Godfrey pitched a complete game and had a shutout until West Ranch scored two runs in the seventh. The Wildcats had the tying run at second with one out, but Godfrey induced a game-ending double play.

Cleveland (Calif.) 9, Sierra Vista 3 -- At Sierra Vista, the Cavaliers scored six runs in the top of the 10th to defeat the Lions.

Five of the six runs were unearned as Sierra Vista made three of its five errors.

Sylmar (Calif.) 5, Centennial 4 -- At Centennial, the Spartans scored five unearned runs to defeat the Bulldogs. Billy D'Arienzo was 2-for-3 with three RBIs for Centennial.

San Fernando (Calif.) 3, Centennial 0 -- At Centennial, Jimmy Salmeron threw a one-hitter as the Tigers defeated the Bulldogs. Salmeron struck out four and walked none.

Carson (Calif.) 7, Palo Verde 5 -- At Palo Verde, the Colts scored the go-ahead run on a throwing error in the top of the eighth and went on to beat the Panthers.

Carson added an insurance run on a wild pitch. Jordan Pierce was 2-for-4 for the Panthers, including a two-run triple in the bottom of the seventh to cut Carson's lead to 5-4. He scored the tying run on a double by Jordan Worley.

Niwot (Colo.) 5, Bonanza 4 -- At Bonanza, the Cougars used a three-run fifth to down the Bengals.

Bonanza's Chasen Shreve was 2-for-4 with two runs and Tomo Delp went 2-for-4 with two RBIs.

Bonanza 11, Birmingham (Calif.) 0 -- At Bonanza, Joel Fernandez pitched a six-hitter with six strikeouts to earn the win in the five-inning game.

Delp hit a three-run homer and Ryan Pineda was 2-for-2 with two RBIs for Bonanza. Steve Francom added two hits and two runs for the Bengals.

Las Vegas 6, Banning (Calif.) 2 -- At Las Vegas, Marvin Campbell was 2-for-3 with three RBIs to lead the Wildcats over the Pilots. Christian Lucero added two hits and two runs for Las Vegas.

Vista Murrieta (Calif.) 13, Las Vegas 8 -- At Las Vegas, Trent Garrison was 3-for-4 with a homer to lead the Broncos past the Wildcats.

Campbell, Alex Church and Francisco Rodarte each had two hits for Las Vegas.

Centennial (Calif.) 9, Arbor View 3 -- At Durango, the Golden Hawks scored five in the top of the second and rolled to the win.

David McClure homered for the Aggies.

Kamehameha (Hawaii) 8, Arbor View 2 -- At Durango, the Warriors limited the Aggies to three hits in the win.

LIONS TOURNAMENT

Spring Valley 6, Mira Mesa (Calif.) 4 -- At Chula Vista, Calif., the Grizzlies rode a six-run second inning to victory at the Mike Morrow Lions Tournament.

Connor McKenna was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs to spark Spring Valley. German Barajas and Chase LaComb added two hits apiece for the Grizzlies.

La Costa Canyon (Calif.) 8, Green Valley 2 -- At Carlsbad, Calif., the Mavericks used a pair of thee-run innings to down the Gators.

Tyler Jones went 2-for-3 for Green Valley.

Poway (Calif.) 6, Silverado 4 -- At Poway, Tony Nix homered to help the Titans defeat the Skyhawks.

Mike McDade was 2-for-4 with an RBI for Silverado, and Jordan Keegan went 2-for-4 with a double.

Silverado put two runners on with no outs in the seventh, but McDade hit into a double play to end the threat.

Brawley (Calif.) 3, Foothill 0 -- At Brawley, Irwin Delgado pitched a three-hitter to lead the Wildcats.
