Canadian wins Nevada Open on first playoff hole

Canadian Seann Harlingten made a 20-foot birdie putt on the first playoff hole to win the Nevada Open on Thursday at CasaBlanca Golf Club in Mesquite.

Harlingten, of West Vancouver, British Columbia, and Tim Whitney, of Fort Collins, Colo., finished tied for first in the three-round tournament at 17-under-par 199, one stroke better than a group of four that included Phillip Reedy of Las Vegas. Harlingten, who turned pro in 2006 and was playing in his second Nevada Open, then used his putter to win the $20,000 top prize in the $105,000 tournament.

Las Vegan Ryan McCullough finished as the low amateur at 204 and tied for 12th overall with three others, including Monte Montgomery of Henderson. Drew Scott of Henderson tied for 16th at 205, and James Drew of Las Vegas tied for 24th at 207.
