Stallion Mountain Golf Club acquired and set to reopen this summer

Stallion Mountain Golf Club was acquired by a Colorado-based ownership group and is set to reopen for invitational play this summer. Located just six miles from the Las Vegas Strip at 5500 E. Flamingo Road, Stallion Mountain Golf Club boasts 18 holes designed by former PGA Tour professional Jim Colbert and golf course architect Jeff Brauer. Scottsdale-based OB Sports Golf Management was selected to prepare the course for reopening and will manage all aspects of the facility including golf operations, agronomy, food and beverage, instruction, membership sales and marketing.

Stallion Mountain Country Club will reopen as a semiprivate facility with flexible membership offerings available for both residents and nonresidents alike. In addition, the club will be available for resort guest play, groups and tournaments and available for weddings, banquets and events.

The 38,000-square-foot clubhouse at Stallion Mountain overlooks the golf courses and surrounding mountain ranges, providing a stunning backdrop for weddings, banquets and special occasions.

OB Sports also operates three other popular Las Vegas-area courses, including The Legacy Golf Club in Henderson, Angel Park Golf Club in Las Vegas and Aliante Golf Club in North Las Vegas.

Henderson Spartans to host golf tournament

The Henderson Spartans Youth Football Team is holding its first-ever golf tournament and fundraiser Aug. 20 at Black Mountain Golf and Country Club. Golfer check-in begins at 6 a.m., followed by the shotgun start at 7 a.m. A luncheon and awards are at noon.

Sponsorship opportunities are available, ranging from $100 to $500.

Tournament entry fees are $45 for members and $75 for nonmembers. Interested golfers can register online at http://spartansyouthfootball.net/.

The Spartans are part of the Southern Nevada Youth Sports Association, a full-contact football league that focuses on the fundamentals of the game to prepare athletes for high school football.

night tournament won by Ludvigson family

Kennedi and Stetson Ludvigson combined for a 5-under score July 9 to win the Virgin Valley Junior Golf Association night tournament at the Palms Golf Club. The winners in the four-person scramble played with their parents, Justin and Jody Ludvigson.

Golfers used glow balls for the unique eight-hole tournament that began at 7:45 p.m. and concluded in the dark at about 10:30 p.m.

A three-way tie for the second place included Mitch and Cody Jones, accompanied by parents Don and Mary Jones; Christian Begin and Easton Jensen, who played with parents Jeff and Michelle Jensen; and juniors Autumn Schlemmer and Taryn Mayer with Taryn's parents Don and Shanon Mayer.

The annual event is the most popular Virgin Valley Junior Golf Association tournament of the year drawing about 50 participants.

Sponsors of the tournament included Mesquite Tile and Floor and the Palms Golf Course, which hosted the tournament.

The Virgin Valley Junior Golf Association will host junior/adult tournaments every Saturday beginning at 11 a.m. at various golf courses in Mesquite.

Team of Kijowski, Mays wins Cleveland Pro-Scratch

The local team of professional Joel Kijowski and amateur Tyler Mays took top honors in the 2011 Cleveland Golf/Srixon Pro-Scratch Invitational at Angel Park Golf Club, posting a two-round total of 62-65 -- 127 to edge out Tommy Medina and Garrett Iverson of Arizona.

The annual Cleveland Golf Pro-Scratch, held July 10-11, is a two-person better ball with each team comprised of one professional and one "scratch" amateur competing for a total prize purse of more than $17,000. The event draws teams of golf professionals and amateurs from all over the country.
