Shriners Open hole of the day: No. 16, 560 yards, par 5
October 24, 2015 - 11:12 pm
This is a hole most of the pros can reach in two with little problem. The key is trying to get it close to the pin, which can be problematic depending on where it is set up.
But there is still danger. There are tall trees along the fairway, and there's a lake that guards the front of the green. Find the water like Rickie Fowler did Saturday on his second shot from 190 yards away, and it can ruin a round. What should have been a likely birdie with a halfway decent shot wound up being a bogey for Fowler.
Most of the players didn't have much problem with No. 16. Saturday's stats for the hole showed more than twice as many birdies (45) than pars (21). There were also three eagles, with nine bogeys and one double bogey.
"It's more like a par 4," said Brett Stegmaier, who birdied the hole. "If you hit a good drive, it's a midiron in."
